Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Lynn Buell Jr., retired USMC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2007, at his home in Burlington Flats.
Ken was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Exeter Center, to Kenneth L. Buell Sr. and Catherine Sullivan.
He married his beloved wife, Diana Buell, on Dec. 5, 1961, in Burlington Flats.
Ken joined the Marine Corps in June 1955 and served 24 years. During those 24 years, he served at the following: 3rd Marine Division, Clarksville, Tenn.; Quantico, Va.; San Diego, Calif.; 3rd Marine Division Camp Lejeune, Sea going on USS Forrestal; Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va.; drill instructor at Parris Island, S.C.: Albany, as well as serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Marines in 1978, while serving in Cherry Point, N.C.
He started Ken Buell's Landscaping in 1982 and began working in 1985 for the Hadley Estate in Cooperstown. Ken retired from there in 2005.
Ken is survived by his wife, Diana Buell; daughter, Paula Briggs and husband Tim, of Cicero, daughter, Gwenda Slattery and husband Craig, of Burlington Flats, daughter, Carol Buell-Madison, of Burlington Flats, and daughter, Cindy Arnold and husband Mark, of Burlington Flats; and grandchildren, Kenneth Honour, Johnathan and Zachary Briggs, Rebecca, Jacob and April Bartlett, Collin Slattery, Nicholas Buell, Elisha and Samuel Madison, Katie and Emily Arnold.
He had one great-grandchild, Kenneth Todd Honour Jr.; sister, Eleanor Madaras, husband Frank; brother, Charles Buell, wife Joyce; sister, Esther Ludeman, husband Bill; brother, Ronald Buell, wife Joan; sister, Lela Reed; sister, Cathy Melniczenko, husband Alex; sister-in-law, Loretta Buell. He is also survived by 32 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Janice Truex; his brother, Elmer Buell; his father, Kenneth L. Buell Sr.; and his mother, Catherine Sullivan.
Ken belonged to the following organizations: First Baptist Church of Burlington Flats; Brunswick Island Baptist Church, Supply, N.C.; American Legion, Edmeston; VFW, Cooperstown; and the Marine Corps League.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home of Edmeston. His funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church, Burlington Flats and officiated by Pastor Jay Henderson at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007. Interment will immediately after the service in the Huntley Cemetery, West Exeter.

Ssgt KL Buell was my Senior Drill instructor plt 2028 1966, I always habe had a deep respect for him, some in the same plt still talk about him

S/Sgt. Buell was my senior drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC. He was a true leader of men and I believe his leadership saved the lives of many of us who served in Vietnam. S/Sgt Buell is in the center of the photograph.
