Saratoga Springs - Kenneth Charles Buhrmaster, 53, passed away unexpectedly at home of natural causes on Monday, February 13, 2023. Born on October 20, 1969 in Schenectady NY, Ken was the son of James and Sandra Buhrmaster.

Ken grew up in Scotia and was a 1987 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School. He was a proud alumnus of Utica College of Syracuse University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Economics & Human Resource Management in 1994. Ken met his best friend and forever love, Kathleen in 1990 and the two were married on August 31, 1996.

Ken spent his entire professional career working for his family businesses. He started at the age of 11, cleaning offices working his way up from shop hand to sales manager to becoming President/CEO of J.H. Buhrmaster Company, Inc., Buhrmaster Propane, LLC, and Shaw Fuel/Propane. Most recently he was named to the Board of Directors for the Scautab Agency. Ken was also dedicated to improving the heating industry as well as his community through his volunteerism. He volunteered for organizations such as the Oil Heat Institute of Eastern, NY where he was awarded Person of the Year in 2006, was a member of the Town of Ballston Zoning Board of Appeals and Town of Milton Zoning Board Chairman, he served on the board of the New York Propane Association, Empire State Energy Association, and the Upstate New York Energy Association. He served as a Proxy Committee Member and Judge of Election for the Glenville Bank Holding Company Annual Shareholder Meeting. Recreationally Ken was in the Galway Lake Sailing Club, the Boy Scouts, a member of the Scotia-Glenville Elks Lodge #2759, and was a talented lead guitarist in multiple bands throughout his lifetime… specializing in rock and heavy metal! Ken was a kind hearted person who loved to give back and help others. Of all of his accomplishments he was most proud of being a loving husband and Dad. Ken’s family was his world. He loved being a part of his children’s activities and athletics. He volunteered for many things for his children from Career Day in Elementary School, to helping with concessions in little league, helping to coach and do the books for basketball and filming volleyball games during covid. He was a member of the “Chain gang” during football season, a CYO basketball coach for St. Clement’s, winning multiple championships, and most recently an assistant JV boys basketball coach for Spa Catholic.

He loved cheering on his New York sports teams, the Giants, the Knicks, the Yankees and of course the Syracuse Orange! Ken was an avid reader of the New York Post and enjoyed sharing interesting articles with family and friends. He had the best sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye as he enjoyed sharing funny stories and jokes.

Ken loved being with and traveling with his family. His favorite vacation spots were Ogunquit, Maine and Key West.

Ken and is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Kathleen; his beloved children, Preston Kenneth, Reagan James and Arden Mae; Ken’s mother, Sandra (late father James Buhrmaster); his mother-in-law, Elaine Keeler (late father-in-law Gerald Keeler), his brothers Neil E.
