Kenneth Callow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2014.
Kenneth Alfred Callow (aka Kenny Day)

Kenneth Alfred Callow (aka Kenny Day) joined the celestial choir on October 10, 2014.

He was born February 20, 1932, to Alfred and Lilly (Piper) Callow in Birmingham, England.

He spent most of his adult career as a professional entertainer, band leader, singer, and comedian. Later he was employed by Carnival Cruise Lines as a performer and within three months became a cruise director. It was on a cruise that he met his future wife, Barbara (Cormany/Blazewick) on April Fool's Day in 1988. They were married Labor Day weekend the same year. Upon his retirement from the entertainment industry, he became an educational assistant with Akron Public Schools. For the next 15 years he loved helping "special students" before Parkinson's caused him to retire four years ago.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Barbara of Akron; step-son, Steve (Emanuella) Blazewick of Hollywood Calif.; daughter, McKenna (Steve); grandson, Alexander Charlton of London, England; and two sisters, Janet Campbell and Pat Beasley of England.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please feel free to make memorial donations in Ken's name to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Ridgewood Road Hospice Care Center. (Anthony, Green, 330-899-9790, www.anthonyfh.com)

Firstly, my most sincere and profound sympathies to all of Kenny´s close family and friends. My apologies for this late, tenth anniversary message of Ken´s passing. I have literally only just found this information online. I appeared with Kenny in a TV talent show (which he deservedly won) in the UK back in February 1978, 46 years ago. His singing was in a different league, utterly superlative. I now have exceptional footage of Kenny singing and would be glad to share with his closest family. My email: [email protected]

To all of you who knew this special man, I send you all my love and best wishes... Steve Phypers

Remembering all the fun times and laughter we shared with Ken. He was such an entertainer. It's hard to believe it has been four years since his passing. RIP Ken.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of my dear Brother in Law Ken. I remember the first time I saw Kenny perform live was in Blackpool where he was sharing the bill with Kathy Kirby, he was fabulous. I know that my late husband Bill, Ken's younger brother was very proud of him, as we all were. Sadly missed by Sister in Law Anne and Niece Michelle & family xx

We will always fondly remember our time of working as entertainers and cruise staff members for Cruise Director Kenny Day on Carnival's T.S.S. Mardi Gras and T.S.S. Carnivale in 1986. Kenny's great personality and incredible talent made him wildly popular with his audiences. In our minds, we can still hear him on stage belting out Memory (from "Cats"), or see him telling jokes that had his audiences in tears from laughing so hard. He was truly one of a kind.

Thank you for the memories, Kenny.

What a special man Ken was. I worked with him in Special Ed. He loved people. He loved laughing. He loved his family. I will always hold great memories we shared. Thanks for being the best friend anyone could ask for.

We will always remember Ken as we were growing up, especially when we were rushing home from Junior school to see Ken (Kenny Day) sing on television on "Lunch Box". Often we were late returning to school if Ken was on at the end of the show. You were brilliant.
Rest in Peace Ken, God Bless
Lots of love

I have so many memories of Ken. My eldest brother. From a very young age I knew he was special. Everyone adored him. He learned to play piano at a young age which was probably the starting point of his musical career. At eighteen years old he was resident vocalist at the local casino and learned to play the double bass, his career took off from there with television appearances the work started to come in and he moved to the bright lights of London. He worked at Raymond revue bar. Talk of the town, did pantomime with Tommy Cooper and worked with numerous big bands. There's lots I could say about him. Not only was he super talented, he was a wonderful person and a special brother. I was and always will be very proud to have been his "little sister" He will always be my superstar. Night night God bless Ken. Love you always. Janet xxx

What a funny guy! He always had a funny story to tell or a musical ditty to sing that made us laugh or sometimes groan. Whatever it was, he knew how to make people feel happy. We will miss him.
