Kenneth Campbell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2018.
In Loving Memory of
Kenneth Campbell

In the early hours of a cold winter's morn on January 4th, 2018, a wonderful life story came to an end. Leaving memories and a life legacy for those who had the privilege of his company, Kenneth, Ken, Kenny, Kirby or KC, as he was known by many, was a special kind of man. He was a gentle, friendly soul who usually had a story to tell or an opinion to offer. His jovial laugh combined with his mischievous little grin showcased his big heart. Ken would be one of the first people to help out, and one of the last people to leave, until the job was done. Ken lived to work, and he made his life mission about succeeding at his career. KC Refrigeration has been a successful business for over 40 years. Made of his own blood, sweat and tears and built from the ground up, he continued to run it until his very last day. He passed his passion for this trade onto his son, who worked closely with him for the last 25+ years. Ken was extremely proud of his children and all of their accomplishments. For him, his life goal was to give his children more than what he had and encourage them to reach their fullest potential. Mission accomplished, Pa!

Ken enjoyed the little things in life, whether it was being a social butterfly, having dinner and a night out or catching up with old friends for coffee, a story and the latest news, taking trips to new destinations with Joanie, spending time at the Legion playing Chase the Ace, meat draws and darts in the good old days, attending 20+ years of Grey Cups, along with many late nights at the squash club and Ducks Unlimited events, winter snowmachining trips or being on the water fishing or boating, and adventures at Wilard Lake. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandsons, and staying at home to watch curling, golf, hockey, documentaries or the nightly news, completing the honey do list, tinkering away on his projects or having a nap in his chair. Ken's sense of humour and sarcastic wit will be sadly missed but will shine on in his 3 children (you're welcome, Dad). Those that will be there to meet Ken in his next chapter are his mother Emily and father Pirie, nephew David, auntie Nor, special father-in law Wilf and grand-dog Dually, as well as many friends. Those left to keep telling his stories are his life partner and soul mate Joanie, his children Leasa, Darin (Ainslee; grandsons Devin and Ethan), Brandi (Jeff; grand-dogs Kona and Foxy), Joanie's son John (Jen), his siblings Al (Audrey), Brian (Bonnie) and Karen (Bob), and many nieces and nephews along with other extended family and friends, too numerous to mention, and business associates.

Our family's hearts are forever heavy, but full of love and memories of your bright spirit for your personality was mightier than your short stature. Your kindness and zest for life will live on in your children and grandchildren. We love you more than you know. Remember to stay out of trouble on the other side!

A special thank you to all the First Responders-EMS, Paramedics, Police, ER Nurses and Doctors for your professionalism and outstanding care and compassion, to Dr. Vaudry for going above and beyond and to Cory at Brown's Funeral Home for providing the highest level of empathy and expertise during our most difficult of times. Thank you to friends, family and the community for the overwhelming support; your love means so much and is a testament to the kind and iconic man we have lost.

In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in the name of Ken to the Kenora Legion for a trades bursary fund. A service to remember Ken will take place at the Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, January 12th at 11:00 a.m. with a celebration of Ken's life and a luncheon to follow downstairs at the Kenora Legion.

To Joanie and the Campbell Family, Ken was a friend to all and one of our dearest friends. Our friendship goes back over 40 years. Bob and I so enjoyed his visits and he was always the first to help us. He did so much for us when we rebuilt after the 1980 Forest Fire. We always knew that we could call him for the best advice. He was one in a million and he will be sadly missed by so many. Deepest condolences to Joanie and the family.

Please accept my condolences, KC was the genuine article, a tremendous guy and allot of fun to be around. I don't think he missed a snowmobile tour that we used to organize a number of years back. Sending warm regards to his friends and family.
He is front and centre in the attached photo, where he was most comfortable.

RIP KC. Our condolences to Ken's family. Working in grocery stores, it was a bummer when the coolers and/or freezers went down. Call KC at whatever time of day and he was there with his smiling face to get us back on. He was "one of the good guys", that's for sure.

We are thinking of you Joanee and the entire Campbell family. Kenny Campbell was the first out to take me out to the squash club and teach me the finer points of the game. While he eventually quit the club I continue to this day to enjoy the game.I thank you for that.
KC always looked after me whenever there were refrigeration problems at the store.Always gave sound advice. May God bless.
