Services for Kenneth Wayne Gatewood, of Montalba will be at 1 p.m. Sat., Nov. 29, 2008 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.His journey here on earth ended on Nov. 26, 2008 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. His new journey began immediately after. He was born Jan. 18, 1934 in Blackfoot Community, Anderson County, Texas to James Westley and Dollie Mae Gatewood. He was 74 years, 9 months, and 8 days young. Mr. Gatewood was retired from United Telephone Company after 32 years of service. He served a tour of duty in Germany from 1956 to 1958 in the U.S. Army. He held the rank of corporal upon discharge where he received the Good Conduct medal and Foreign Aid medal. Mr. Gatewood was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, a host of nieces and nephews and more friends than you can count.Pallbearers will be Tim Perry, Blake Harp, David Baker, Jose’ Pena, Jacob Ganter, and Ronnie Gatewood. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law and Embarq retirees.Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

James and I are so sorry for your loss. We shared Thanksgiving Day with you a few years ago at my brother and sister-in-law's, Kenneth & Shirley Roberts (your sister-in-law) home. Shirley has kept me posted on her brother's illness. He is in now in God's loving arms.
