Kenneth Alva Groom Jr., 89, a retired phanmacist, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2007. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Burial: IOOF Cemetery in Star City, Ind. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials: may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the building fund at Pleasant Glade Baptist Church, 3708 Glade Road, Colleyville 76034. Kenny was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Star City, Ind. He followed the family tradition, graduating in 1941 from The School of Pharmacy at Purdue University and owned Groom's Drug Store in Swayzee, Ind., for over 40 years. Kenny served in the Navy during World War II in the Philippines as a pharmacist. He was a 60-year Mason from Grant Lodge 637 and a member of Scottish Rite and Shriners of Swayzee, Ind. He was a member of Pleasant Glade Baptist Church. Kenny married Dorothy Dee Mahan and moved to Colleyville on Oct. 14, 1990. They shared a special love for almost 17 years. Family, friends and customers from Groom's Drug Store will remember Kenny for his quick wit and stories and the kindness he bestowed on others. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Groom; son, Kenneth Alva Groom III; and his parents, Kenneth and Iris Groom. Survivors: Wife, Dee Groom of Colleyville; daughter, Becky Schultz of Mesquite, Nev.; daughter-in-law, Gay Groom McWhorter(John) of Keller; grandchildren, Troy Schultz (Hollie) of Star City, Ind., Todd Schultz (Susan) of Star City, Ind., Amy Schultz of Mesquite, Nev., Jason Groom (Tiffany) of Keller, Chris Groom of Keller; seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Danny Mahan (Nawana) of Bells, Donny Mahan (Debbie) of Colleyville, Dwayne Mahan (Susan) of Westlake, Dusty Mahan (Debbie Sue) of Liberty Hill and Deborah McCombs (Bryan) of Liberty Hill; 12 stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
