WISE, Va. – " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…" II Timothy 4:7,8 The Rev. Kenneth Chester Hall, 77, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was an ordained minister of the Wise County Ministers Association, attended Community Freewill Baptist Church in Coeburn, Va., attended Coeburn High School, where he played football on the 1950 District Championship Team. He was an avid Coeburn Blue Knight supporter, a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Norton Sound, a member of the UMWA Local 2274 and a retired coal miner for Clinchfield Coal Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Della Hall; brothers, Ray, Gilmer, Hershel Charlie and Stuart Hall; son-in-law, David Hylton; and two special brothers-in-law, Lloyd Baker and Chester Baker. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Fay Baker Hall; six daughters, Peggy Green and husband Ronnie of Wise, Brenda Collins and husband Dennis of Wise, Hazel Jessee and husband Ronnie of Wise, Rita Shelton of Church Hill, Tenn., Madonna Carver and husband Jack of Wise and Lisa Bolling and husband Steve of Pound, Va.; grandchildren, Jason Green and wife Audrey, Susan Freeman and husband Justin, Brittany Collins, Joshua Jessee, Sheena Moore and husband Michael, Bryon Hylton and wife Jamey and Tessa Mullins and husband Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Isaac Green, Alissa Green, Eric Green, Mason Craft, Ryder Freeman, Chloe Mullins and expecting two new arrivals; mother-in-law, Stella Baker; brothers, Homer Hall, Carl Hall and Troy Hall; sisters, Cora Dingus, Evelyn Baker, Vennice Hall, Joyce Caruso, Judy Mullins, Ruby Rossie, Irene Hibbitts and Eula Lawson; several nieces and nephews; his church family; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for the Rev. Kenneth Chester Hall were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Pastor Wayne Perry, the Rev. James Wilson, evangelist Bud Culbertson and the Rev. Jason Green officiating. The family received friends from 5 p.m. till time of services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial and graveside committal services, with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009, in the Smith-Gilliam Cemetery by the local VFW members and National Guard. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession. Sturgill Funeral Home, 1621 Norton Road S.W., Wise, VA 24293, is in charge of arrangements.
