Kenneth William McBride, 84, of Preston, passed away peacefully Monday, March 17, 2014, at his residence.

Kenneth was born Feb. 12, 1930, on the family farm in rural Olmsted County, to William and Emma (Oldenburg) McBride. He lived most of his life in the rural Preston area. He attended school in Chatfield. He married Eva Schoppers on June 12, 1955, at the Sumner Methodist Church. Kenneth worked hard all of his life. He enjoyed his work on the family farm. He also worked in the maintenance department for 28 years at Seneca Foods in Rochester.

He was a member of the Local 199 Food Workers Union and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatfield. He and Eva loved to travel. They traveled from coast to coast visiting friends and family. They also traveled to Alaska. He loved to read and spend time with his grandchildren.

Kenneth is survived by five children, Sheila McBride of Preston, William "Bill" (Sheila) McBride of Preston, Sandra Erickson of Preston, Matthew McBride of Lake Crystal and Curtis (Michelle) McBride of Preston; grandchildren, Heather, Kenneth and Jacob McBride, Jairus and Collin McBride, Mitchell, Ashley, Sam, Emma and Danny McBride, April Knipe and Amber Erickson; great-grandchildren, Joey and Christian Knipe, Taylor Waller, Corbin McBride and Kyra McBride. Kenneth is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Jim Shorter and Lewis (Kathy) Schoppers; and sister-in-law, Eurmadele Schoppers. Many nieces and nephews also survive.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eva, brother, Wesley McBride, sister, Doretta Shorter and infant brother, Fred.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Preston Paul officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 19,  from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Chatfield.
