Kenneth Richardson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2025.
Kenneth Charles "Ken" Richardson, 76, passed away on March 29, 2025, in Bakersfield, California. He was released from the bonds of Parkinson's Disease and entered into eternal peace.

Born on April 23, 1948, in Bakersfield, Ken remained closely connected to the community throughout his life. After graduating from Bakersfield High School, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard. His service included time aboard the USCGC Minnetonka along the coast of Vietnam and two tours to Antarctica aboard the icebreaker Burton Island.

Following his honorable military service, Ken devoted more than 30 years to the Kern County Fire Department, concluding his career at Station 32 in Shafter. Known for his ingenuity and hands-on skills, he built everything from horse trailers and boats to chicken coops and cars. If something needed fixing or creating, Ken was the one people turned to.

Ken had a deep love for family and a lifelong passion for learning. He enjoyed camping trips from childhood through his seventies, often exploring in an RV with loved ones. He embraced new hobbies like golf and biking and took great pride in earning his pilot's license-flying became another way for him to explore with wonder.

A man of faith, Ken believed in Jesus and lived with warmth and generosity. Known for giving memorable hugs and telling stories that brought laughter, he had a way of making others feel truly seen. A true jack-of-all-trades, he was always ready to help or offer advice.

Ken is survived by his wife Karen Richardson; children Ken Richardson, Jaimi Paschal, and Kari Mathes, and brother Gene Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris Richardson and Juanita Powell, and brother Bob Richardson.

A graveside service with Military Honor Guard will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, California.

May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to all whose lives he touched.

Ken was a very special man. Beth and I enjoyed spending time at church and Bible study together with Karen and Ken. We are eternally grateful to Ken for being a mentor to our son while he attended a military academy. He had quite an impact on our family. Rest in peace, Ken.
