Kenneth Seamon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 7 to May 8, 2016.
Kenneth "Kenny" Ray Seamon MT. PLEASANT - Kenneth "Kenny" Ray Seamon, 62, of Mount Pleasant, SC, beloved husband of Mary Ann Seamon, entered into eternal life surrounded by his family on May 6, 2016. As he joins our Lord, a service of celebration and remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Senior Pastor Gary Bullard will be officiating. A private natural burial will be conducted at Greenhaven Preserve prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2016 at Hobcaw Creek Plantation clubhouse, 430 Ansley Court, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Kenny was born on July 22, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the only child of Henry "Hank" Earnest and Virginia Tucker Seamon. Early in Kenny's life his family moved to Cedartown, Georgia, where he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Bunn. They started dating when Kenny was 15 and Mary Ann was 14. After graduating together from the University of Georgia in 1976, they wed that August in Cedartown. Kenny was first employed by Kirby Player and Associates in Atlanta, later moving to Nashville, TN where he worked for Gresham Smith and Partners. Kenny and Mary Ann eventually made Mount Pleasant, SC their home in the late 1970s. In 1982, Gene Tynes, Stuart Whiteside and Kenny began a company bearing their names. Several years later, Kenny and Stuart founded SeamonWhiteside, a firm following their passion for environmentally conscious engineering and site design. Some of the firm's best known projects are the Volvo Car Stadium (formerly the Family Circle Tennis Center, Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, Wannamaker County Park and the award winning I'On neighborhood. Kenny has served on the East Cooper Land Trust Board, the South Carolina Board of Landscape Architectural Examiners and the Charleston County Board of Adjustment. And recently, Kenny was honored as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects for his numerous professional accomplishments and contributions. Kenny believed in developing those around him, and most will never know how many he touched in such a sincere and significant way. He mentored and influenced countless throughout his lifetime, and always with humility and a Christian servant heart. He had a talent for seeing the potential in people, especially the young, and then not only encouraging them, but helping them to achieve their dreams. He lived and worked by the mantra "you catch more flies with honey", treating everyone around him with love and respect, which in turn brought him success and happiness. He was the epitome of caring and giving. Kenny's well-known smile will continue to light up the world through everyone he has touched. While Kenny had numerous professional accomplishments, he always put his faith and his family first. He excelled at being a wonderful, kind, loving, affectionate husband to his wife; and he was an incredible, patient, role-model father to his three sons. From coaching his boys in sports, to giving them life and business advice as they grew older, he has always been an integral part of their lives. Kenny's love for the outdoors, hunting, hiking, fishing, dirt bikes and camping has been instilled in his three sons and grandson. Some of his boys' best memories are from their times together in the woods. He was the most incredible Bop Bop to his grandson, Tuck, often sneaking ice cream before dinner while reveling in a two-way unconditional love. Kenny is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Seamon of Mount Pleasant, SC; three sons, Russ Seamon (Katie) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Logan Seamon (Georganna) of Blairsville, GA, and Carden Seamon of Mount Pleasant, SC; his grandchild, Tuck Seamon of Mount Pleasant; and his parents, Hank and Virginia Seamon of Cedartown, GA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many special friends. The family wishes to express a deep appreciation to the countless medical professionals who helped him, his tender caregivers, and all of the friends and family that showed support throughout this difficult time. Kenny strongly believed in giving back to the community. Therefore in lieu of flowers the family asks that you kindly consider giving to one of the following organizations in his memory: Operation Home, The Green Heart Project, Charleston Miracle League, and Winwood Farm Home for Children. Kenny was a true idol for so many and I wish I could do something to bring him back. I wish I could understand why and could help bring you all some closure, but unfortunately, that is thinking selfish as Kenny Ray has gained his wings and is watching over us all in Heaven! I know he will be the first to great us all when our time on Earth is up and if I had to guess, he'll have a shot of Fireball waiting for us all and what a glorious day it will be to join him on the other side! To Mary Ann, Russ, Katie and Tuck, Logan and George and Carden: Hang in there and make him as proud as you can as you always have. Though he will never be replaced, the love he taught and showed you all daily will continue to be the glue that keeps you all so tightly bonded together. Keep your faith and know you are all deeply loved!

It's impossible for me to tell you how immeasurable Kenny's impact was on our family. Thank you for employing our daughter 10 years ago, and making all of us a part of your extended family. While I only had an opportunity to briefly have an association with Kenny when Seamon Whiteside was doing some work for me several years ago, I liked him from time I met him and felt like he was a good upstanding person. As in the words of the 1960's song, "Seems the good they die young", 62 is too young for a good man like Kenny to pass. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues of Kenny.

As dean of the College of Environment and Design at UGA I wish to report that with the news of Kenny's passing heartfelt sadness has rippled through the entire college. So many people knew and admired him as the obituary states so clearly. All of us at CED will uphold him as an outstanding example of character and professionalism to the future generation of students.

We never have those we love long enough. Although I have not seen Kenny in many years, I still remember how kind he was when I was blessed to have Carden in my kindergarten class. Now he is a man, and the years have just flown by. I have no doubt that Kenny will live on in all your hearts and in the many lives he touched. No one wants to "get over" the loss of one so loved; but you learn to carry him in a gentle, loving place within you with all the precious memories you shared. Mary Ann, may God bless you and your sons with comfort and healing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary Ann, Russ, Logan and Carden: My heart goes out to your family. I've known Kenny and Stuart through working at the Town of MP and at PaverScape Design Group. I recently worked with Russ on one of the Town's Boards. What an amazing family!! After losing my daughter to cancer a couple of years ago, I know how difficult it had to have been for Mary Ann. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. God bless you all. Stay strong and together as a family.

Mary Ann and Boys,
You and your family have been in our prayers and thoughts through the years Kenny was diagnosed.
My family was so blessed to have been in your lives when you lived on Nell Court. Karen felt a special connection to your family. We all meet and friend so many through the years but there are those people you meet that forever are like gold in a mountain of sand. You and Kenny are the Gold pieces in our life. Anyone who has been lucky enough to have shared a friendship with you know the power of love. Dick,Betts Grant

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Kenny was a special man and will be dearly missed. He always was great to be around and truly cared about others. I think he was happiest at work when we were celebrating family milestones of those we all worked with, whether it was a new baby or graduation, Kenny was truly happy for you and your family during those times. I learned so much as a professional from Kenny, but even more about being a good man.

Kenny was one of those people that just made you feel wonderful being around. I enjoyed every time I was around him. Seeing how great your family was the summer I was with you molded a lot of the decisions I have made since. I am really sorry for your loss.

Mary Anne and family, you should be the proudest family in our town... Your husband .... Your dad, touched so many people in such positive ways... Kenny touched me when Steven and Brandon were children. Kenny would go out of his way to comfort my boys in a way that made me so proud to neighbors with your family. Kenny made such an impression on me that I wanted to treat other children the same way Kenny did. That was almost 20 years ago. Still today I still live by this.... Your dad thought me how to treat others young and old. What a mentor for me. He will be missed... My prayers go out to your family....

It saddens me dearly for the loss of Kenny. He taught me so much in my short time at SWA and always had a spirit that was infectious and he had a true sense of pride in those who were around him. I wish the deepest sympathies to the Seamon family and know that you all have memories that only make you smile. May God's peace be over you all and know that my family supports you in your grief. Kenny would say it...Go Dwags! We're all gonna miss him.

A finer person, I've never known. If everyone treated their fellow man like Kenny did, the world would be a much better place. With his absence, the world is minus one wonderful man.

Very sad news Mary Ann. I saw him a couple years ago coming out of the Spine Institute w a big smile and a spring in his step after back surgery. It's a shame he didn't have lots of years to enjoy that new lease on life. He was a true southern gentleman. Proud to call him my friend.

The Seamon Family:

I was the Town Attorney for Mount Pleasant for twenty two years and had the pleasure of meeting and working with Kenny during this time. He was always the consummate professional and gentleman.

Not only did he always treat me with kindness and respect all during my time with the Town, but he also went out of his way to treat me exactly the same after I retired. Kenny was a very genuine individual and very fine person!

Accordingly, I was truly saddened to learn of his passing. Please accept my sincerest sympathy.

God bless Kenny and God bess all of you.

Mary Ann and family: We have lost a great friend. A person that never stood out front, but was always present. First met Kenny over 25 years ago when he accomplished the landscape plan for our house in Goose Creek in the Stratford subdivision. Little did we know that we would be together later riding dirt bikes. Kenny was a great supporter of the Armenia Dual Sport from it's inception some 12 years ago after we moved away. Rest in peace my friend knowing that you are now in God's care and continuing on.
