Kenneth L. Settle, 72, of Taylor Ridge, Ill., formerly of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island.
Kenneth L. Settle was born on April 17, 1932, to William and Mildred (Dahlheim) Settle, in Moline. He married Greta Lindmark who preceded him in death. He later married LaDonna Hardersen.
He was employed as a Pay Roll Supervisor for John Deere.
He joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on Dec. 9, 1965, and retired on Dec. 31, 2004. He held positions as Instructor, Vessel Examiner, Marine Dealer Visitor, Coxwain, Flotilla Commander, and Division Captain.
Ken devoted many hours teaching boating safety courses, conducting courtesy vessel safety checks, serving as an expert witness in boating accident investigations, and patrolling the waters of the Mississippi. He will be missed by his shipmates in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Moline Memorial Park.
Survivors include wife, LaDonna Settle, or Taylor Ridge; one daughter, Kristin (Richard) Moon, of Ovilla, Texas; step-daughter, Deborah Herman, of Davenport; one granddaughter, Caitlin Moon; one grandson, Thomas Moon; step-grandsons, Joseph De Rooi, Jarrod De Rooi.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred, his father, Willam Settle.
Memorials may be made to The Andalusia Volunteer Ambulance and Fire Department.
