The funeral for Kenneth B. Wolverton, 71, of Pilger will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pilger with the Rev. Timothy Booth officiating.
He died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
He was born Oct. 18, 1933, at rural Stanton to Marion and Irene (Kirschmer) Wolverton. He attended Stanton County Rural School District 19 and 47 and graduated from Pilger High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. After being discharged, he worked for O'Brien Chevrolet in Pilger. He married Jeanette Drott on Feb. 5, 1956, in Stanton. He purchased the Corner Service Station in 1956. In 1958, he purchased his first haying equipment and began his custom haying operation. As the custom work grew he sold the station and operated Wolverton Hay Co. until his death.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pilger, he served on the Pilger Farmers Cooperative for the last 32 years. He also served as a Stanton County Commissioner from 1985 to 1997, served on the school boards of Stanton County Rural School District 47 and Wisner-Pilger Public Schools. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3602 of Stanton and had sponsored the Wolverton Hay County softball team for 15 years.
Survivors include: his wife, Jeanette Wolverton of Pilger; two sons, Bob Wolverton of Lincoln and Ron (and wife, Barb) Wolverton of Pilger; a sister, Marian Beckman of Springfield, Mo.; and three granddaughters.
Ken was preceded in death by a brother-in-law.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. today at Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Pilger and will continue from 9 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Pilger Cemetery.
