Kenneth Yancey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 6 to Jan. 9, 2022.
Kenneth Mark Yancey, a Baton Rouge resident, passed away at home on Monday, August 23, 2021. He was born on July 5, 1971 and was 70 years old. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Allegra Nevils Yancey; and many second cousins; Elliott White of Tampa, FL and Karen White Castledine of Coldspring, TX; Martha Yancey of Baton Rouge, LA and Steve Yancey of Shreveport, LA; Clarence Teagle, MD of Shreveport, LA, Oliver Teagle of Hemphill, TX, and John Teagle of Baton Rouge, LA; Cathleen Yancey May and Cynthia Yancey Partlow of Houston, TX; and John Richard Yancey of AR; and two moderately good and loving dogs. Mark was a native of Houston, Texas, but the Tiger Band brought him to Baton Rouge, and he fell in love with the people, the food, the music and LSU. Mark's many abilities included anything to do with constructing or repairing: electronics, millwork, tiling, engines on cars and both sail and motor boats, and the building and reparation of guitars. He was an engaging and inveterate joke and story teller, and just like Will Rogers, seldom met a stranger. Mark always exhibited kindness and generosity and was willing to lend a hand-whether it was building a friend's deck, captaining or sailing on a crew, working NOYC race committee or helping to bring a Krewe of Yazoo Mardi Gras float to life. He loved working with people who became friends, his work, creating fun, tailgating and watching games and Anything LSU! A memorial service will be held for Mark on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 2:00pm on the LSU campus on South Stadium Drive across from the Digital Media Center (near the Parker Coliseum). Parking is available on the street or in lots. Canopies will be set up in case of rain. Mark asked that any donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the New Orleans Yacht Club's Juniors Sailing Program, or to St. Joseph's Hospice Foundation in Baton Rouge.

the kind of man who insisted on buying a friend a drink - even if he had to borrow the money to do it - always gracious - always friendly - blessed to have him in my life

Still find myself reaching for my phone to give him a call and see what he is up to -- and then reality sinks in

I never saw Mark without a smile on his face. I can still hear his trademark stilted chuckle. We will all miss the joy he brought to us all.

Since we first met (1971), we hit it off, and shared many spoken and unspoken adventures while at LSU ;) What ever mischief you wanted to explore you could count him IN . and nobler acts too ! I got to share many sailing adventures with him that enriched my soul and made me salty. I plan to hook up with him in heaven as i am sure he will have a Beneteau fully stocked and ready to go.
