Kent Copeland Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 7, 2014.
Kent lived a life with many accomplishments. He graduated from University of Houston with his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1982 and then his Masters of Industrial Engineering-Project Management in 1988. His career centered around 32 years in the Aerospace Business. The past 20 years were spent with Oceaneering Space Systems. Many of those years were spent as the EVA Project Manager, Robotics Program Manager, Space Suit Program Manager and Director of Business Development. He was highly respected, accomplished and a mentor to many. Kent enjoyed car racing, motorcycle riding and traveling. Kent lived his life to the fullest. The thing that he loved the most was being at home and spending time with his family. Kent had many friends and many felt as though he was a brother to them. The love he had for his wife Holly and all their children was evident in his actions and words. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife, family and friends who meant everything to him.

Holly and family,
It has been just over a year since Kent has passed. I have thought about you a lot over the past year, and I was shocked when I learned of Kent's passing. I had not seen Kent in several years, however I remember his lively energy and great sense of humor. Sending you all lots of love and continued peaceful energy.

Holly and family-I've known Kent since 1983 and his love for NASA was so evident then. When we worked together as young 20 year olds, his comical antics sure livened up our ordinary days. He was a wonderful person. We are all lucky to have known him. Our thoughts are with you and yours. We will miss him.

Kent was a good friend who I will miss dearly. We would spend hours talking about anything and everything (with that booming voice of his) often standing in the middle of our street or on his front porch. He was one of the few good men I have known in my life. Those who knew him know they have lost someone special. My heart is heavy but I know he is in a good place, smiling, laughing and feeling good again.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family in this sorrowful time. I got to know Kent during the pursuit of the space suit contract, and on other collaborative endeavors between my company and OSS. He was a straight shooter who I liked very much.

Holly, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. In the past 20+ years, I have been inspired by the number of people that Kent has positively impacted and guided. He has been hugely instrumental in our successes here at OSS. He has been a great leader, co-worker, and friend to me. I miss him.

Holly and Kids, I have struggled to try to put down the right words for 2 days now. Kent was like a brother to me, and being a brother comes responsibility. I want you to know that I am here for you if you ever need me. We will all miss him dearly.

I'm truly saddened to hear of Kent's passing, his influence on myself, my friends and co-workers was disproportionate to the minutes and hours we were fortunate to spend with him.

I actually didn't know Kent. I met him once at a party, I think. However, I know a lot of his friends and I have heard great things about him for almost a decade. I almost feel like I know him.... ....knew him. It saddens me that someone that so many people (good people) admired is gone. My wish is that everyone who knew Kent will eventually only remember the man and not his passing.

They were both exceptional people in all aspects. They are both missed. I wish we had many more years to enjoy Kent, but life is not fair.

Holly,
Kent was such a wonderful manager and friend. He helped me deal with the stresses of work politics several times, remaining calm and rational. He always seemed to have a smile and his dry humor often helped ease the stresses of working with the government. He will be sorely missed at OSS.

Holly, we are so sorry for your loss. We have good memories of visiting with you and Kent at the Fouts' home, Fredericksburg and Garner. Whenever we go to Randy and Donna's, I envision Kent walking down the street to come sit on the back porch. He was a great man that was called home too soon. We are thinking about you and your family and praying for your comfort and peace.
