Kent Cournoyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2015.
Cournoyer, Kent Allen

Kent Allen Cournoyer, age 62, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home on August 28, 2015 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Kent was born in Milwaukee on August 23, 1953 to the late Louis and Adele (Colavecchi) Cournoyer.

Kent attended Xavier High School where he competed on the football team. He was an accomplished trumpet player as well. He went on to study accounting at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where he earned accreditation as a Certified Public Accountant.

On October 8, 1988, he was united in marriage to Kristi (Ott) Cournoyer at Zion United Methodist Church in Forest Junction, WI. The couple has enjoyed 27 blessed and never dull years together.

Kent was a longtime employee as a manufacturing operations controller of Marion Body Works in Marion, Krueger International in Green Bay, and most recently, ConAgra Foods in Ripon. He was a member of the prestigious professional associations AICPA, WICPA, and IMA.

Kent was an unusually dedicated father, husband, brother, son, cousin, uncle, grandfather and friend. First of the five siblings, Kent was the exalted big brother. Ever the procreator, he was father to two sets of twins. Kent was one of the most avid hunting and fishing partners who ever lived. His sense of humor was big and ever-present no matter the situation or company. If you were fortunate to accompany him on one of his epic trips to Canada, Wyoming, Montana or Colorado or to his beloved land in Clark County, Wisconsin to hunt or fish, count yourself lucky. And if you are reading this, you probably enjoyed the fruits of his skills with a shore lunch or some wonderful venison products.

The land in Clark County was Kent's happy place. His stamp is all over the cabin, land, hunting blinds, bird feeders, ATV's, and the over 50,000 trees planted by him and his many family members. He often mentioned how he saw God in nature, there on 'his land', especially.

His other loves of note in addition to his children and grandchildren included rescue dogs, preparing and enjoying large, loud Italian-inspired family feasts, and especially the love of his life, Kristi.

Kent is survived by his loving wife Kristi Cournoyer, of Appleton; 6 children: Kenneth (Heather) Cournoyer, Chippewa Falls, Kristopher Cournoyer, Seattle, WA, Keith Cournoyer, Kathleen (Joshua) Martens, Brent Cournoyer, and Alyssa Cournoyer, of Appleton; 3 sisters: Lisa (Bob) Gibson, Appleton, Rene (Rob) Cournoyer-Kokka, Larkspur, CA, and Nanette (Chris-Chapek) Cournoyer, Novato, CA; brother: Kurt (Chris) Cournoyer, LeClaire, IA; brother-in-laws: Norman (Nancy) Ott, David Ott, Scott (Annie) Ott, and Joel (Betty) Ott of Brillion; sister-in laws: Julie (Jerome) Bastian, Kaye (William) Wynen, and Mary (Tom) Brouillard of Brillion; special Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Jim, Wausau, WI; mother-in-law Lucille Ott; and 5 grandchildren. Kent was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Adele Cournoyer, grandparents Stella and Bud Eggers, infant brother Louis Cournoyer Jr., father-in-law Donald Ott, and beloved German Shorthair, Gunner.

A funeral service will take place at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 2, at Zion United Methodist Church, N8893 Church St., Forest Junction, with Pastor Rick Andrus officiating. A luncheon will follow. Friends may visit at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, (606 N. Oneida St,. Appleton) on Tuesday, September 1, from 4 to 7 pm and directly at the church on Wednesday, September 2, from 9AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery, Forest Junction.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in memory of Kent to Wisconsin German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue (www.wgspr.com). The family would like to extend a very special thank you to ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their compassionate and never-ending care for Kent.
