Clyde Unglesbee Obituary

Clyde Wachter Unglesbee, 89, of Brookeville, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at Casey House Hospice in Rockville. Born Jan. 31, 1920, in Daisy, he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Bessie Wachter Unglesbee.

A 1938 graduate of Sherwood High School, he married the former Anna M. Linton on Oct. 18, 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946 with 18 months in the European Theater of Operations. After World War II, he worked for K.W. Simpson Co., then Olney Electric Co., which he purchased with his wife in 1957 and operated until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Unglesbee was a Town of Brookeville commissioner, charter president and life member of Olney Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of: Montgomery General Hospital; Sandy Spring National Bank; Asbury Methodist Village; and Sandy Spring Museum, serving two years as chairman. He served as past commander and chaplain and was a member for 61 years of the American Legion Norman Price Post #68. He was a charter member of Sandy Spring Lions Club in 1946, charter member of Olney Lions Club in 1972, he was zone chairman and deputy district governor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1929 and held many local and district offices in the conference. He was a lay leader of the Washington West District and past secretary of the Baltimore Annual Conference Board of Laity.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Leslie (Josephine) Unglesbee; two sisters-in-law, Mary Unglesbee and Florence Johnston; many loving nieces, nephews, and God-children.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at Salem United Methodist Church, 12 High St., Brookeville, MD 20833.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Salem UMC Legacy Fund, in care of Salem United Methodist Church, at the above address.
