I am a patient from long ago in Granbury, Texas when he was a general surgeon. I became his patient upon referral from another physician for surgery and was previously acquainted with him as a client of Texas Dog Academy. Dr. Light was very well thought of and well respected here. I came across his obituary quite accidentally and was completely shocked. Terrible loss for his family and his patients. Godspeed Dr. Light.

A brilliant, amazing soul. Truly a loss of joy to this world.
I met Dr. Light at a clinic where I was being treated by another physician. I had a particular spot on my forehead that had perplexed three physicians. A nurse suggested Dr. Light take a look. He immediately recognized the spot as lead! He laughed and said, "You have a lead head!" He said how in the world did you get that lead in your head? Until that time, it had slipped my memory that I had an accident with a pencil in second grade! I responded that I would make an appointment to come back for him to remove. He said, "Absolutely not, that's not good for you and it's coming out today!" He knew I was nervous about it and he kept me laughing the entire time he was "operating". He took it out within thirty minutes, stitched me up and I healed with no scar. That's the kind of person he was, he cared and he took action. He was a skilled surgeon and a great guy.
Prayers of comfort for you and yours.

I knew Kevin through the Pontiac Central Marching Band (a drum major as I recall) and again as a classmate at Des Moines University for medical school. He was a great guy and I am sure he had a successful medical practice. He will be missed!

From those of us that knew Kevin in his formative years; he was talented, whimsical, kind, and mostly, unforgettable! In the Pontiac Central Band, a great musician and competitor to be reckoned with. My father Thomas Course, Jr., his band director, fondly remembers Kevin as we all do ... like family. Kevin, you will be missed dearly my friend. Our deepest symphony to Kevin's wife Dena, his children, and his extended family at this sad time. His sparkle will remain forever.

I don't believe in death... Like someone said: "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."
And we will find a peace and strength to be happy for Kevin... but now it's so hard to say goodbye. Our love and prayers.

Dena, When we hear thunder and the skies light up in noise and laughter, we will know that Grady and Kevin have met and having a grand time being their charismatic selves lighting up Heaven! Not to worry, they will be holding our space beside them waiting for us to arrive when it is our time. I am sure of it! Until then, we carry on the best we can.....

Dearest Light Family
Kevin's Light shines on through the countless Lives he touched and lit up.
Unlike our physical body the LOVE we carry and share is eternal and thus the only truth there is and that matters.
Kevin lived that awareness and in this awareness he continues to live within us.

For me, Kevin was the personification of everything a physician should be- brilliant, caring and completely committed to whatever it took to maximize a patient's good health and well being. I remember Kevin as a man who truly embraced life, was a loving husband and faithful friend- worthy of being called Superman in the OR or an F-16, in a lab coat or the uniform of his country. I will always cherish his friendship and believe that the world is a colder place without the warmth of his smile. With deepest sympathy, Wallace "Buz" Barlow, JD, Dallas, Texas
