REW
Kevin Leonard, 56 of River Vale, NJ passed into eternal life surrounded by his devoted family on Sunday, May 5, 2013 after a courageous batttle with cancer, which he fought during the past five years. Kevin was born in Saint Joseph's Hospital, Paterson, NJ and grew up in Glen Rock, NJ where he attended grammar and middle school, and graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1976. Upon graduation, and attending Rutger University, Kevin started his own landscaping business in Glen Rock, which he operated for many years, before moving to North Eastham, MA. Upon arriving at Cape Cod, he was emplyed by the Yard Work's Company, and Cape Associates, both of North Eastham, MA. He later was employed as a Produce Manage for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, Inc. and was assigned to various stores on Cape Cod. Kevin's drive, dedicated work ethic, and potential, earned him the opportunity to be transferred to the North Jersey Division of A & P where he was enrolled in an Assistant Manager Training Program, and upon completion was promoted to Assistant Manager of Park Ridge and Woodcliff Lake NJ Stores, where he served in that capacity for many years. Of late Kevin was employed by Refcon, Inc., of Norwood, NJ as a purchasing agent and expeditor.

Kevin loved the outdoors and looked forward to going small game hunting with his faithful and loving dog Trevor. Kevin never missed an opportunity to hunt white tailed deer during the fall and winter season or go fresh or saltwater fishing during the summer months, or ice fishing during the winter. Kevin was a mentor to his nephews, who he shared his expertise and knowledge with, as it related to hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending time on his boat fishing the lakes of New Jersey, and the Delaware River. He always looked forward to the numerous fishing trips he took with his fishing buddies to Upper New York State and Canada over the past years. He was a member of Duck's Unlimited, The National Rifle Assoc., Bergen Bowman of Bergen County, and was a member of the Lions Club of Orleans, MA. Kevin was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady Mother of the Church, Woodcliff Lake, NJ where he volunteered his time, doing needed repairs to and around the church.

Kevin leaves his beloved wife Joann (nee Alemany), of River Vale, his loving mother Mary Teresa Rew of Glen Rock, and his late father, Detective Harold C. Rew, formally of the Glen Rock Police Depart., his devoted sister Carol Ann Rew, of Upper Saddle River, NJ and her boyfriend of many years Michael Marangi. Kevin also leaves his mother-in-law Ann Apera of River Vale, his brother-in-law Joseph Alemany, and his nephews Kyle, Philip and Curt. Kevin is also survived by his aunt Jean Leonard of East Orleans, MA; his uncle Francis X. Leonard and his wife Patricia of Hawthorne, NJ; his uncle John Rew and his wife Helen of Scottsdale, AZ; his uncle Roger Rew and his wife Pat of Noblesville, IN, and his aunt Janice and her husband John Du Bois of Cotter, AK, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

We have many great memories of Kevin. He lived with us for a short time and worked for us for several years at the Yard Works Company. He was a true sportsman and loved all the outdoors had to offer. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I absolutely Loved the beautiful write up on cape cod online. I live in Boston and although only went to high school and grew up with Kevin -- I saw a beautiful bio of his life, influences and passions.
Cancer is a horrid disease and I do so much to raise money and awareness to donate to the research to cure.
I hope he was at peace - as it seemed he was -engulfed in his loves his family and home.
The GRHS class of 1976 remember and embrace our memories of Kevin. Best wishes to his entire family! You are very lucky to have celebrated his life with him so intimately.
