FAIR OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Kevin Sharp, a country music singer who recorded multiple chart-topping songs and survived a well-publicized battle with cancer, has died. He was 43.
His sister Mary Huston said Sharp died at his mother's Fair Oaks, Calif., home, at 10:49 p.m. Saturday of complications from past stomach surgeries and digestive issues.
"He had a strong heart, that's what kept him alive, (but) I'm so happy for him, that there's no more suffering," Huston said through tears and exhaustion. She had cared for her brother since his return home to Northern California last Friday after 10 weeks in the hospital.
Sharp gained fame with the release of "Nobody Knows," a single on his 1996 debut album, "Measure of a Man." He released two other albums, "Love Is" in 1998 and "Make A Wish" in 2005.
Born in 1970 in Redding, Calif., Sharp was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, as a high school senior. He overcame it after two years of chemotherapy and radiation.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Sharp's wish to meet Grammy Award-winning music producer David Foster, who gave him tips to help jump-start his career.
Sharp also became a motivational speaker, a spokesman for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and wrote "Tragedy's Gift," a 2004 book about fighting cancer.
For the last several years, Sharp had struggled from past stomach surgery and residual issues from his aggressive cancer treatment.
"His dream came true through music, and he touched thousands of lives, and he helped heal the soul of people dealing with cancer," Huston said.
Sharp is survived by five brothers, two sisters and his mother.

I have to say I just discovered Kevin Sharp and his amazing songs and his amazing voice and his amazing courage and his love of the word "HOPE". I am a 11 yr breast cancer survivor and lost my soul mate, my Ricky July 19,2016 after being married for 52 yrs, 3 months 2 days. I got ear buds for christmas from my daughter and her husband and I have rediscovered alot of music since. I came across Kevins songs and listen all the time from my phone. I love them all and tears Fall upon my cheeks. I have just about wore out my earbuds from listening to the music from my phone laying in my bed at night. I also listen to the Righteous Brothers as well since this duo was our favorite in the 60's and on. I listen and some of the songs brings back sweet memories or our marriage. If not for those songs in the late 60's while my Ricky was stationed in Germany serving in the Air Force got me thru that lonely times. I am going to get me a copy of Kevins book "Tragedy's Gift" for sure. I just lost a very good friend on April 19, 2021 and has left devestated. the 2 of them share the same day in April but 7 yrs apart. My anniversary is April 17 th of yr.Now April 17 th and April 19th are going to be sad days. He passed way tooo soon and I pray for his entire family and of course his loving MOM. Kevin did not have the pleasure of having any children just like my dear friend, Mike is his name, when he passed on April 19th he was alone with his dog...both of his parents are since gone, had no siblings and no children so this memorial service on May 13 is going to be very emotional, sad and heartwarming. all the arrangements are being made thru his church family and business associates. he was a contractor and remodeling/update of my house in April 2017 was his last professional job before his health started to decline. what gets us thru the days and hours is he is no longer in pain and just told GOD it is in his hands now, he is ready. again, thank you Kevin Sharp thank you so much!
