I just now learned of Kevin's passing. I was his platoon leader in Vietnam and was with him on the day he was wounded. He was indeed a brave man! I have thought of Kevin with some frequency over the years and truly believe he represented the very best of our generation. My deepest sympathies to Kevin's family and friends.

I last saw Kevin at the Westlake reunion a couple of years ago. As always he made me laugh, as he commented about old friends that no one has actually changed. Same groups. I remember fishing with Kevin when we were young and camping out. I hope the best to the Shinn family as you are all so supportive. We'll all miss Kevin. Learned of his passing after the funeral. God be with him.

When Kevin first came back from Vietnam, he lived at Westpark Apts. on W. 10th. He had one of the town homes in the front and my friend's apt. was across the parking lot. I didn't know him personally but I knew of his situation. You have to remember this was the early 70's when Vietnam vets were not well thought of by some people. Being the daughter of a WWII vet, I could never understand that treatment. I was only in my late teens at the time. Thru the years I've come to know his brother Tony and Tony's wife Margie. My heart aches for them but I know Kevin is now finally at peace.
Kevin Shinn, SALUTE..........

Kevin - I always looked up to you during our St.Christopher days playing CYO football. You were a great running back that I enjoyed handing the ball off to. You have crossed the goal line to heaven, and scored the final touchdown. RIP my friend. Your courage will always be a motivation me.

Kevin. I have loved you for so long, 47 years. I had you for a few years, but lost you. Wish I could go back in time to be with you again, and change a lot of things that happen between us. I am so glad that I got to talk to you a few times and explained a lot of things to you that hurt both of us. You were my first love. You have always been in my heart these years and will continue to be in my heart. I have tears of losing you again and tears because you are now at peace. I will love you forever, Kevin.

Kevin was funny and always in good spirits when I was around him. I will always remember growing up on Cossell Road right down from Lyons Ave and him just wheeling around in his wheel chair laughing and making jokes with me. I have always been close to the family and it saddens me that another great man, soldier, hero, and most of all friend; is gone. Rest in peace buddy and say hello to everyone for me and tell my mom and dad I miss them so much.. much love and condolences to the family and friends of Kevin..

I knew Kevin as far back as St. Christopher School. What sticks in my mind the most about Kevin is when he took me out to Ft. Harrison back in 1972 so that I could get my ID as I was a young bride to someone in the military. He let me drive his hand controlled corvette. My thoughts and prayers to the Shinn family.

I had the privilege and honor of being Kevin's squad leader for a while. He was an outstanding soldier and always did what was asked of him. I was with the patrol when Kevin was wounded. He demonstrated exceptional bravery and dignity as he realized the gravity of the situation. That day was the last time I saw Kevin. I, like some other platoon members, was able to talk with Kevin over the last couple of years. I cherish those phone conversations. May Kevin rest in peace. The other Herd Brothers, who preceded him, have welcomed him with open arms.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Shinn Family. I knew Kevin during the early 70's. I met him and enjoyed his company on many an occasion. Being a fellow Vietnam Vet I appreciated what Kevin went through and respected an admired him. I last saw him in Indy around 1988 downtown before the Indy 500. Rest In Peace Kevin you deserve it.

I loved Kevin like a Brother & for years he was my brother-in-law. When Tom was in AF Boot Camp Kevin would drive to my Mom's, pick me up & take me to his apartment on 10th where, as he put it, could keep an eye on me, lol He was always wearing his smile & easy to talk &/or joke around with. He was a wonderful Brother, Son, Uncle & Loved by Many. Kevin never let his great loss from the war stop him from doing anything he wanted to do.He liked to make himself appear like the big, bad guy but he was really a softie & had a BIG heart. RIP Kevin, you will never be forgotten.
