William LACHANCE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2017.

William (Bill) Roy LaChance September 11, 1925 - October 4, 2017
At home in Craigleith following a short illness, at the age of 92, Bill died 8 weeks after Gerry his wife of 68 years. He reminded us that in the end family is what matters most. Bill was born in Lambton Mills ON, to Archibald and Lillian, predeceased by older siblings Clarice, Gladys, Roland and survived by John. Bill was a gifted athlete leading him after his WWII Army Service to Phys Ed at the University of Toronto where he met Gerry in the Class of '48. After graduation he enjoyed his career teaching at Leaside High School. Dad loved woodworking and always had a project on the go. With 6 children, Jean, Allan (Laura), Bill, Tony (Dahna), Deanie (Bob), and Michele (Paul), Dad soon learned that he could no longer hide the ice cream. There were lively discussions around the dinner table and so much laughter it would bring him to tears. The family were early members of Craigleith Ski Club where the third generation continues to ski. Bill was a voracious reader and a dreamer of great adventures. Upon retirement, fulfilling a lifelong dream which began when he was a teenager sailing his first boat 'Ethel C', Bill and Gerry set sail for the Caribbean logging thousands of nautical miles on their beautiful 'Sightseer III.' He shared his love of nature with any takers whether camping, skiing, hiking or sailing. He was fascinated by new gadgets and technology, buying navigational equipment for the boat, tools for his wood shop, cameras, cameras and cameras and his most recent joy a red hybrid car which he acquired for his 91st birthday. He will be forever in the hearts of his children and his 10 grandchildren: Frazer, Kevin, Carina, Derek, Emma, Rylee, Sylvian, Cedar, Fox and Robin. Dad we will miss your smile...may you have sunny skies, fair winds and gentle seas. At Bill's request, no funeral will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, October 24th at 1 p.m. at the Leisure Time Club, 100 Minnesota St. Collingwood. Donations may be made to the Collingwood G & M Hospital Foundation in his memory. Friends may visit Bill's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
