KLAUS KRIPPENDORFF

KRIPPENDORFF--Klaus. Klaus Krippendorff, a professor for over 58 years at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Pennsylvania (the longest serving in the school's history), passed on October 10, 2022, at age 90. During his tenure, he pioneered important fields: content analysis, human- centered design, cybernetics, and product semantics. He is remembered by his peers and students around the world as an "intellectual tour de force," "a central figure - maybe the central figure - in content analysis," and a "giant in the field" who "never looked down on the rest of us." His work shaped the practices of political science, social science, marketing, national security, and machine learning, among others. He published over 250 books and articles on these topics, his last book, "The Reliability of Generating Data," being published posthumously. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
