I woke up today and thought of Knut, who I hadn't spoken to in nearly 40 years. When I went looking for him online, I was sad to discover he had passed away back in 2017. I met Knut while working at the Compushop computer store in 1979. He had bought a computer from us to use with his accounting, but I think it was mostly to learn about this new field that was just getting underway. He would drop in to the store from time to time, and I would always enjoy chatting with him about new things happening in the computer business. He even attended a course at U of C with me to get a solid background in the programming that went into the applications he was using. I ending up moving far away, and our paths didn't cross again.
What always impressed me about Knut was that he was always learning, always trying to make his world a little bigger, always open to make a new friend, and share his knowledge and time with those that were lucky to have met him. I'm happy I was included in that group, and sorry to hear of his passing.

Marylin and family please accept our most sincere condolences at Knut's passing. He was one of my most favorite people. When we first met all those many years ago it was the bushman and the aristocrat. Knut came to our office in his suit and I was in my working clothes. I said "Mr. Skarstol I can't be comfortable dealing with such a straight laced (thats not what I really said) individual. So from there on in Knut came in dressed in comfort. I am also proud (or ashamed) that over the years I convinced him that polite language could be overused and that on occasion there were better words. Knut was honest, decent, kind, thoughtful and compassionate and a zealous believer in doing the bestjob possible. I will miss him and hope there are BMW's in heaven.

Marilynn, Steven and Sonja. I first met Knut in 1978 when we both worked for Joe Phillips. I enjoyed our morning coffees at a restaurant across the street where we discussed business. Knut was the most honest decent man that I have ever met. When we spoke on the phone we ended by saying "we'll have to get together for coffee" but unfortunately we left it too long. Knut leaves a legacy of a life well lived. COLIN Jackson

On behalf of Lisa and myself, our deepest condolences for your family's loss. I met Knut a few times in the 1990's when he was accounting for the small company I worked at. During that time, and purely by coincidence, Knut started attending Lisa's fitness classes at TrymGym, so she was fortunate to cross paths with him as well. I remember Knut as a quietly humorous, thoughtful and warm person with a ready smile. I know he will be dearly missed.

To Marilyn & Family: We send our deepest sympathy. Knut was first our accountant, but very quickly became our friend. 19+ We were very blessed to have such a wonderfully kind person come into our lives. Knut's vast accounting knowledge was immeasurable but ever more immeasurable is how much we valued his friendship. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our most sincere condolences.

Over the 27 years I knew Knut, first as a fellow tenant at Campana Place, then as the incredibly skilled accountant who looked after our whole family's interests at tax time, but most importantly as a very good friend, and I will miss our chats about anything with wheels and an engine...

Knut was the perfect example of a kind soul, a gentle man, and a gentleman, and that I will miss, greatly.

Rest in peace old friend, rest in peace.

Regrettably, I knew Knut for only a few years at Trym Gym - how could you not like a guy who wore a D. Q. shirt to exercise class?! Knut was a kind soul with a very enjoyable sense of humour.
My condolences to the family.

Dearest Marilyn & Family,
Knut has been one of the greatest joys about living in this neighbourhood. We have loved our regular chats with him and he has always been there to lend a hand when needed. I remember rushing out to take one of our cats to the vet and the car not starting. Knut happened to be heading out and insisted he could give me and the cat a lift to the vet. He even offered to come in with me as I was a bit teary eyed. We will miss his gentle spirit and kind heart. How fortunate we are to have known and loved him. Marilyn, please know we are here for you now and in the days ahead.
Much Love,
Mike and Laurie Jespersen

Steve so very sorry to learn of the loss of your father. I will be thinking of you and your family.

Marilyn and family - I am ever so sorry to hear of your loss. Knut would often engage me in interesting conversations on finance and investing while we hiked the mountain trails. He had such sound advice. I last saw Knut at the Dentist's office and he immediately said how much he missed our hikes together. Such a blessing to have met Knut.

Knut was the most generous, kindest person I have ever met. We enjoyed many conversations over the last 20+ years, many on the hiking trails in the Rockies and on walks in Calgary. He was always interested in whomever he was chatting with, which makes for a great hiking companion. I will always remember his "free" helicopter ride out of the trails high above Skoki Lodge, in Banff National Park, when a broken ankle secured his transport, and him telling me that when he arrived at Peter Lougheed hospital, he still had tree branches in his hair from being slung out of the forrest, which really impressed the doctor on duty! Marilyn, Steve and Sonja, Knut makes me smile when I remember him, he leaves a lasting impression on me and my entire family, Keith, Oscar and Eve. People of his character, his kind nature, don't come around that often.

Knut was the most gentlest souls and amazing friend and confidant for me I will miss his wonderful spirit when he came to visit us at our training lot. He was always looking out for me and wanted me to be happy. He really was like a wonderful brother to me. His life will live on through our school

Love you with all my heart Knut always and forever my friend
