Kristine Fletcher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2024.
Kristine Fletcher, known to most as Kris, was born in Mississauga, Ontario on February 15, 1965 to her loving parents Jack Fletcher and Patricia O'Donoghue. Kris was the youngest of her four sisters Sharon, Lynda, and Jacquie, who she loved dearly.

After graduating from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Kris pursued a career in optometry, which moved her to Houston, Texas. There she met her life partner, husband, and the love of her life Rick Schroeder.

Kris and Rick were married in Brantford, Ontario, the town where she was raised on March 27, 1993. They moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where they began their careers as optometrists and started their family.

Kris was an accomplished optometrist who cared deeply for her patients, and whose patients cared (if possible, even more) deeply for her. She spent her career working part time so she could spend her time with what she cared most about-her family.

Kris was a devoted mother who put her family above all. She was the mother of three children, Alaina, Jackson, and Cooper, who she loved immensely. Kris also loved creating a home. She made her home warm and inviting to all, especially to her family. She was a talented baker, avid reader, Kansas sports fan, and had an incredible eye for fashion and interior design.

In the spring of 2023, Kris was given the unforeseen diagnosis of lung cancer. She bravely fought this impossible new reality alongside her family with extreme strength, grace, and dignity. On September 26, 2024, Kris passed away with her family by her side. She left behind a room without pain, filled only with love. She will be so profoundly missed.

Memorial services will be held in her honor on October 11, 2024 at 2:00p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue. Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Donations in memory of Kris appreciated to World Vision via their website. (worldvision.org) or may be sent in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502. ymlfuneralhome.com

I am the oldest of 12 second cousins in the Fletcher family. I regret not being able to know Kris well. Your moving obituary painted a picture of a strong, gifted woman who loved her precious family beyond words, valued many friends and lived life fully. These qualities are exemplified in her paternal grandfather, Ernie Fletcher. My heartfelt condolences to you Rick and your beautiful family. You will be close in my thoughts.
Fondly

Many many fond memories of working with Dr. Fletcher at The EyeDoctors in Manhattan.
Even after moving, she kept in touch. She was a sweet and giving person, and I know she will be missed by many. Sending thoughts and prayers to Dr. Schroeder, Alaina, Jackson, Cooper and their family.
