I took an undergrad course with Kurt in 2013 at UBC on Earth System Sustainability. I wish to share, from a student perspective, how much colour, life, and creativity Kurt shared with many hundreds (probably thousands) of students. His unique wisdom, perspective, and methods of teaching inspired students from diverse disciplines to be more engaged in sustainability science, which is something Kurt cared and thought deeply about.

So sorry to hear about Kurt at school reunion this weekend. He was my "boy next door" growing in Peoria Heights. We had had a lot fun playing in the neighborhood.

I am so very sorry to hear of Kurt's untimely death. I was just about to email him to say we should get together. I had no idea he died in February. Kurt, another prof, Jaymie, and I co-taught a field course to Baja California in Spring of 1999. Though such a long time ago, I still have vivid memories, most of them from Kurt's contagious enthusiasm for research on the natural world, helping guide students to realize their potential, and his gentle and kind way. I learned so much about teaching from him. My heartfelt sympathies to Kurt's family and other friends.

I am so sorry to hear of Kurt's passing. I feel that I only just saw him on Main Mall here at UBC one recent day walking across campus. I appreciated his heartfelt sense of connection to the world around us. His research inspired me. Our conversations over the years have left a positive mark in my life.

Hello,
I am terribly sorry for your loss. I knew Kurt in Vancouver. He was a neighbour, a role-model and a friend. I have attached a picture of a Halloween 5K, we did in 1997.
Deepest sympathies,

To the Grimm Family and Oly and Eli,
I went to school with Kurt at Denison University and reconnected with him here in Vancouver around 27 years ago. I could always tell if Kurt was in a room as soon as I heard that all American contagious laugh. It brought great joy to my heart and I recently told him that his laugh always brightened my day. He was so proud of his boys and whenever we connected he would share stories of what they were up to. I am going to miss his stories, authenticity, earnestness, childlike wonder and sense of humour. My prayers are being sent your way.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Grimm family and all his close friends. I as a childhood friend of Kurt's was fortunate enough to get back in touch with him on Facebook. I got to see pictures of his boys and the joy of the 3 of them together. I will always remember Kurt for his quick wit, intelligence, friendship, laughs and most of all his always positive personality. That will leave us here a bit more empty but I am so lucky that my path crossed with such a great guy. Thanks Kurt.
