RATZLAFF, Kurt Paul

We are grieved at the untimely death of our beloved brother Kurt Ratzlaff, father of a wonderful daughter, Edith Anne Marie and former spouse, Rose Ratzlaff (nee Clark). Kurt grew up in Calgary at the home our father built at 5504 Centre Street North. At an early age, we as a family noticed he had an exceptional mind; creative and original in thought and pursuit. Graduating from James Fowler High School, and SAIT with a Diploma in Structural Technology and spending summers working along side the crews of our father's construction company, he became inspired to pursue further studies. He enrolled in the faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Alberta, achieving an undergraduate and then Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. Already with a young family, he received a Doctoral Degree in Steel Design in 1995. Having worked with Canron, Omega Joists and Atlas Steel, he went on to establish his own engineering practice, K.P. Ratzlaff Engineering. He served many clients and friends here in Calgary with his special expertise and stimulating friendship. Kurt is survived by his loving daughter, Edith; former spouse, Rose Ratzlaff; brothers: Oly Ratzlaff, Bruno (Linda) Ratzlaff; sister, Gerda (Sammy) Tawfik; uncle, Richard (Annie) Ratzlaff; aunt, Alice Ebert in Germany; aunt, Alma Bartel in Edmonton, AB along with numerous cousins, extended families and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church (204 - 6A Street N.E., Calgary). Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.
