Kyle Turner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 28, 2007.
Former Palmer resident Kyle I. Turner, 80, died peacefully Aug. 10, 2007, at home in Provo, Utah, with his wife, Norma Jean, at his side. Kyle was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and fought the aftereffects for several years.
At Kyle's request, there will be no service. His ashes will be spread over Matanuska (Byers) Peak in Palmer.
He was born May 11, 1927, in Brewster, Neb., to Mark and Minnie Turner. At the age of 17, Kyle joined the Navy and fought in the Pacific during World War II.
After serving his country, Kyle continued his education, receiving a degree in business management.
Kyle came to Alaska in 1954 on a hunting and fishing trip and fell in love with the country. He settled in Palmer and became vice president of the Matanuska Valley Bank. After several mergers, the bank became First Interstate Bank, from which Kyle retired as an executive vice president.
His family wrote: "In 1962, Kyle married Judy Campbell and together they raised three children: Don and Bill Campbell and Kyla Turner. Kyle was active in the community and was a member of the American Legion, Moose, Elks and Masons. He loved fishing and hunting with longtime friends and rarely passed up an opportunity to experience the great Alaskan outdoors.
"In 1987, Kyle and Judy moved to Texas. Shortly after Judy's passing in 1995, Kyle moved to Provo, Utah. In 1996 he met and married Norma Jean Aitken."
Kyle is survived by his wife, Norma Jean of Provo; siblings, Mary Hughes and Ralph Turner, both of Colorado, and Ethel Payton of Anchorage; his children, Don (Laura) Campbell and Kyla (Brian) Campbell of Wasilla, and Bill (Kelly) Campbell of Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson, Kyle, Dani, Emily, Sarah, Bill and Jessica Campbell; and his stepchildren, Alan, Glen, Garth and Don Aitken and Laurie DeHaas; and many nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane, Suite 204, Anchorage 99503.
