L.D. Noel

LONGVIEW  — Memorial services for L.D. Noel will be 3 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2012, at Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road, with the Rev. David Badders and Mr. Larry Ferguson officiating. Mr. Noel passed away at his residence Wednesday, January 18, 2012. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Born September 15, 1926, in Goober Hill, Shelbyville, Texas, to Beadie Ross and Amanda Moore Noel, he joined the USNR as an aviation ordnanceman-third class August 2, 1944, and was honorably discharged July 13, 1946.
After serving in the Navy, he began working for Halliburton in Kilgore, Texas, and later working in Africa, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. He met his wife, Gillian, in the London office of Halliburton. They married March 31, 1978, and went to Libya and the ivory coast, then returned to the U.S.A.
They resided in California, where he retired after 37 years. After a short spell "retired," he went to work for Gene Powell investments for 20 years. He retired again on his 80th birthday.
He loved playing golf, flying his plane, sailing, fishing and playing dominos. A great achievement was when he and his brother, B.R. flew to Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beadie and Amanda Noel; his children, Neal Ross, Melinda Lou and Terry Van; and a brother-in-law, Richard Hexter (U.K.).
Mr. Noel is survived by his wife of 33 years, ­Gillian "Jill" Noel; his brother and sister-in-law, B.R. and Jeannie Noel; sister-in-law, Jenny Hexter (U.K.); three grandchildren, Rhonda Noel, Amanda Richardson and Billy Richardson; great-grandchild, DeShaun Wilson; many nieces and nephews; and two very good friends, Gene and Jane ­Powell.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Beacon Hospice (Margaret's House), Lorraine his nurse, Judy his aide; Good Shepherd Medical Center; Comfort Keepers; and Accolade Home Health.
