L. Glass Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 4 to Aug. 6, 2009.
GLASS – Atty. L. Edward, 62, Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Johnstown, died Aug. 2, 2009, at home. Born Jan. 6, 1947, in Johnstown, son of Atty. Robert S. and Evelyn (Russell) Glass. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by loving wife, Lynn A. (Burns) Glass; daughter, Suzely M. Glass; brothers, Robert S. Glass Jr. and Walter Scott Glass; and numerous family members and dear friends. Atty. Glass was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's college and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. His formal education included studies abroad in Rome and Mexico City. Upon his admission to the State Bar, Atty. Glass joined his father in the practice of law, becoming the third generation of Glass family lawyers. Quickly, he rose to prominence in the areas of criminal defense and civil litigation, often choosing cases where the stakes were high and the pay was low over those less stimulating concerns that paid well but mattered little. A man of principle, Atty. Glass was unwavering in the discharge of his duty of loyalty to his client and candor to the court. In trial, Atty. Glass was a quick thinker who was blessed with a special talent that allowed him to connect with the decision-maker, judge or jury, through the metered magic of his word choices that were delivered in persuasive bass tones, sounding in trust and honesty. Atty. Glass was licensed to practice law in the Federal Courts and in the states of Pennsylvania and New Mexico, where he spent the last 14 years of his professional life. Those same character traits that anchored Atty. Glass in his profession, served him equally well in his role as loving father to Suzely and devoted husband to Lynn. In quieter moments, Atty. Glass enjoyed the arts, reading and cinema. Atty. Glass was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He embraced the Southwest culture and enjoyed the scenic beauty of the New Mexican deserts and mountains. Former member of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, the Very Rev. Paul E. Turnbull, VF. Friends received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 15120 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, Ill. 60693, in his memory.

Was such a long time ago since I last talked to Eddie. Some people you remember more than others. My condolences to
his wife and daughter. And to the brothers, Bob and Scotty, the 8th ward sometimes seems just a moment ago.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working as Ed's secretary for almost 10 years and being his friend for over 20 years. He was one of the most intelligent and humorous men I know; making me laugh on a daily basis. He was an advocate for the "underdog," and fought for a cause with all of his being. I will dearly miss him. My deepest sympathies to his famiy, especially Lynn, Suzely, and Ed's brothers,

My deepest condolences to Ed's family and to DJW. I worked for many years at the Courthouse and Ed never failed to stop to say hello to me. How I loved his sense of humor and that particular way he had about him. He made me laugh! He'll be sorely missed.

My condolences to the Glass family. I still remember something Ed during a golf game in Albuquerque about 10 years ago paraphrasing his favorite "Sling Blade" character: "This here's my two wood, some folks call it a spoony but I calls it a two wood...Hmmmmm"

EGla - too young - too soon! I will sorely miss our daily conversations about nothing in particular, our golf games , our political and cultural discussions - what a gap in my life - ain't nothing gonna fill that (as Carl, one of your favorite movie characters, might have said) Bob Morgart

Lynn & Suzely & other family members, My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. Ed was a wonderful, caring, warm-hearted boss to me for the 1 1/2 year I worked for him and it made me smile to see how much he enjoyed his time with you and Suzely. He was so proud to be Suzely's daddy. Lynn, please let me know if I can do anything for you during this time.
