HARPER, L. William "Bill" After a lengthy illness, peacefully with his family by his side in hospital at Ottawa, Ontario on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in his 78th year. Predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Marguerite Harper of Sarnia and his wife Anne Hawley. Bill is survived by his daughters Heather (Lea Boswell) and Patricia (Trevor McLaughlin) and their mother Marion Smith, grandsons Max and Bill Boswell. Also survived by his twin sister Marge Oliver of Houston and brother Bob Harper of Calgary. After graduating as an industrial engineer from Georgia Tech, Bill worked as personnel manager for Canadian Oil, Shell Oil and Atomic Energy of Canada (MDS Nordion). He was an avid sailor, golfer and curler and also enjoyed tennis, woodworking and painting. Bill was also a former board member at the Carleton Place Hospital as well as the Perth and Smiths Falls Hospital and an active member of the Carleton Place Legion. Deepest thanks to dear friends and neighbours and the "Crampton Crew" who were there for him throughout his illness. Many thanks to the staff and doctors at both the Carleton Place Hospital and the Ottawa General Cancer Unit as well as the home care nurses from CCAC. By Bill's request there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held. Friends are invited to a celebration of Bill's life at the Carleton Place Legion on Friday, December 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. Donations to the Carleton Place Hospital of the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. www.barkerfh.com
