Lahoma Jackson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2024.
Lahoma L. Jackson, 93, passed away on July 28, 2024. Lahoma was born on April 10, 1931 in Ramona, Oklahoma to Clay and Ethel (Fiddler) Wilcox. She was the oldest of six siblings whom she adored. As a young child, her family moved to Hominy, which she considered home. After graduating from Hominy High School in 1948, she pursued a love for traveling while working as a typist for the Army Corps of Engineers. She lived and worked in numerous places, to include: Washington, D.C.; Casablanca, Morocco; Pensacola, FL; Rota, Spain; Kingsville, TX; and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before returning to Oklahoma in the 1970s, and eventually to Hominy to care for her mother. She lived in a house across the street from her alma mater until moving to Rose Hill, Kansas to live with her daughter and son-in-law in 2022.

Lahoma found genuine happiness in some of life's simplest pleasures: playing a fierce game of dominoes with her siblings, pushing her grandchildren through the neighborhood in a stroller, or sitting around the fire on family camping trips - be it at Yellowstone National Park or the local lake. She loved to paint, and was oftentimes the person wearing the brightest colors in the room. Despite having an immense vocabulary, laughter was her preferred language. She had an enormous capacity for empathy, and was always primed to provide words of wisdom or a listening ear to those she cared about.

In her later years, she rejoiced in her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom she shared a special bond with - especially in their infant and toddler years.

Lahoma is survived by her children, Jerra (Sid) Caldwell of Rose Hill, KS, Robert (Stephanie) Jackson of Norman, OK, and Wendell Jackson of Broken Arrow, OK; her siblings, Jerra Lucas, June Keeling, and Wayne Wilcox; her grandchildren, Hope Fitzgibbons, Brennan Jackson, Ethan Jackson, and Alex Jackson; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Wallace and David Wilcox.

Services will be held in Hominy at a date to be determined.

In my visits with Miss Lahoma, I learned so much about her journey and experiences, especially her love for travel. She is, and always will be, a great inspiration to me and my family. She saw the world, and motivates us young girls to do the same.
Thank you Lahoma for welcoming us, and sharing your stories with us. You will live on forever in our hearts, and your influence drives me and my sister to see and do more everyday.
