Lance C. Oakes of Des Moines passed away Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Lance was born December 17, 1927 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He served in the Army Reserves in 1946. He worked at the U.S. Post Office, retiring in 1988. He was a dedicated husband and father. Lance was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Oakes. He was survived by his twin sister Lois Ingham of Marshalltown. Lance was the father of six children. Three sons: Jeriamiah Young of Des Moines; Zach Adams and his wife Jan; Kenneth Oakes and his wife Jeannine of Arizona. Three daughters: Karen Shumaker of Des Moines; Rosa Harris of Des Moines; Lorraine Mitchell and her husband Matt of Des Moines. Lance had nine grandchildren: Brittany, Brandon, Brianna of Arizona; Benjamin, Joyce Amanda of Des Moines; Elisha of Louisiana; Michael and Patrick of Des Moines. One great-grandchild: Zakiyyah of Louisiana.
