Lani Evans Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2023.
Lani Douglas Evans, 91, of Boca Raton, FL and long time resident of New York City, passed away on November 26, 2023, in Brick, NJ. Born on August 26, 1932, in New York City, Lani was a self-educated man with a remarkable zest for life.

Lani's early years were marked by hardship, losing his mother, Pauline Evans, in 1940. However, he showed incredible resilience and determination, taking on a job at a local butcher shop at a young age. Lani's father, Douglas Evans, a professional musician, often traveled for gigs, leaving Lani and his older sister, Joan, to support each other.

Despite losing 90 percent of his hearing at the age of 10 due to illness, Lani never let his disability hinder him. He became a highly successful salesperson, excelling in various fields such as selling swimming pools, carpets, and home security systems. Lani's exceptional sales skills earned him the top spot in every position he pursued.

Beyond his career, Lani had a deep appreciation for the arts. He was an active member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lincoln Center, immersing himself in the beauty and culture they offered. He also loved the Toros and was president of Club Taurino, NY. Lani's love for art extended to his hobbies, which included coin collecting and exploring various artistic expressions.

Lani's positive spirit was fierce, and he maintained a cheerful demeanor even in the face of adversity. His favorite sayings, "The beat goes on" and "keep your chin up," reflected his optimism and resilience. Lani's infectious laughter and unwavering determination touched the lives of those around him.

Lani is survived by his son, Joseph Evans, daughter-in-law Teah Evans, daughter Josephine Evans, granddaughter Ashley Evans, and granddaughter Sophia Evans. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Evans, father, Douglas Evans, sister, Joan Evans, daughter, Janet Evans, and son, Paul Evans.

Lani served his country with honor as a Marine during the Korean War. His military associations were an integral part of his life, shaping his character and instilling in him a sense of duty and loyalty.

In memory of Lani Douglas Evans, contributions can be made to the Destiny Thrift Food Pantry, a charitable organization dedicated to providing food assistance to those in need. Donations can be made at destinycdc.org or by contacting the organization in Brick, NJ.

Lani Douglas Evans will be remembered for his resilience, his love for the arts, and his unwavering positivity. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and determination, reminding us all to embrace life's challenges with a smile.
