Funeral services for Larry Barr, age 58 of Clarinda, IA, who died Monday, August 6, 2007 at his home in rural Clarinda, Iowa were held Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda, Iowa, with Reverend Lawrence Boye and Reverend Jerome Wagoner officiating. Visitation with the family was held 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Hillside Missionary Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Service, Clarinda, Iowa. Larry Robert Barr was born June 21, 1949 in Villisca, IA, the eldest son of Robert Barr and Edna (Steeve) Barr. Larry was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended the Immanuel Lutheran School and was a 1967 graduate of Clarinda High School. He was a graduate of an Aviation Mechanic School and attended specialized classes at IWCC for his work at Eaton Corporation. Larry and Janice Durfey were united in marriage August 3, 1973 in Clarinda, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Jeff and Jennifer (Jenny). Following graduation from aviation school, Larry worked at Duncan Aviation for a year. Larry returned to Clarinda and worked for thirty five years at Eaton Corporation, Shenandoah, IA as a machinist. He was also an auto mechanic, working on vehicles at his home shop. Larry really enjoyed working on vehicles and often gladly helped out friends with economical auto repairs. For several years he had a race car and raced stock cars at the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa. Larry enjoyed flying a toy remote helicopter which was given to him by Jeff. Friends and family were very important to Larry and he liked to follow the kids in their school and sports activities. A special interest was watching Jeff race his go-carts and four wheelers and competing in truck pulls. Attending rodeos was a favorite pastime of the family and Larry always went with them although it was not his favorite pastime. His greatest enjoyment was playing with Layne. Larry is survived by his wife Janice of Clarinda, IA; son, Jeff Barr of Clarinda, Iowa; daughter, Jennifer Brown and husband Matt of Clarinda, Iowa; grandson, Layne Brown; father, Robert Barr of Clarinda, Iowa; brothers, Byron Barr and wife Gail of Clarinda, Iowa; Roger Barr and fiancé Pam Woodruff of Clarinda, Iowa; aunts and uncle, Donna Barr of Clarinda, Iowa; Harry Barr of Lincoln, NE, Barbara Nothwehr and husband Lyle of Clarinda, Iowa, Bernice Steeve of Clarinda, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Preceding Larry in death were his grandparents; mother, Edna Barr; uncle, Lowell Barr. Larry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family and many friends.
