Larry Beckerdite Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2024.
Larry Dean Beckerdite, age 73, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 22, 2024, at his home. He was born on May 10, 1950, in Greene County, Missouri, the son of Paul and Wanda L. Beckerdite. Larry served in the US Army after graduating from high school.

Larry was a man of many talents and interests. He had a deep passion for music, particularly the piano, and was lovingly nicknamed the "Piano Man." His musical abilities were truly magical, captivating all who had the pleasure of listening to him play. The Beckerdite family, known for their musical legacy, brought the joy of music to Marshfield and the surrounding townships. Larry, along with his father and grandfather, ran Beckerdite Music, a famous local store established in 1968, until its sale in 1983. They also dedicated themselves to providing charitable instruments and ensuring that children had access to music.

In addition to his musical talents, Larry was an avid practitioner of Taekwondo. His dedication and skill earned him multiple awards, including the National Presidential award, and he achieved the rank of Black Belt through the National Federation of Martial Arts.

Larry is survived by his son, Adam Beckerdite and Teresa of Pennsylvania; Kelly Evans of Missouri; and Stephanie Houdeshell and Kurt of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Caryl Jean Cope-Beckerdite, and his parents, Paul and Wanda Beckerdite.

A service to honor Larry's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Marshfield Cemetery in Marshfield, Missouri.

Larry would play for all the people at The Gardens. He was so good. My mom and I would sing together and enjoy these songs. I was very sad when he moved from his home there into Glendale Gardens. Much love you all of the family - Larry was a good man.

My dad was a rockstar growing up, the long hair, the tattoos, the motorcycle. I always thought, how cool is my dad?! He was a great husband, a great son, great friend and an amazing father and father in law to my wife Teresa. I'll miss you dad, I'm so happy you´re with grandma, grandpa and Caryl now

A favorite memory of Larry was the one Thanksgiving we had together with grandma.
Such a beautiful day and afterwards going to his house and sitting in the back room with the birds. Larry sitting there with his dog Hildie, watching the bigger dogs play in the back yard.
He was such a nice guy, always relaxed and enjoying life.
He was a great father in-law to me.
