Larry Dale Cogdill

We are heartbroken to share the news that Larry Dale Cogdill, 62, of San Diego, California, our beloved son, father, brother, friend and companion passed away suddenly on January 22, 2023.

Those who knew Larry often said he was larger than life. Larry really was "larger than life" and always made people laugh. He had the gift of gab and could persuade an Eskimo to buy ice cubes. He truly lived life to the fullest and lived his life on his own terms. All who knew him knew he had a huge heart and shared his gift of laughter and generosity with his family, friends and co-workers. So many of us will miss him!

Larry graduated from Valhalla High School class of 1978. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and went on to obtain his master's degree in business administration from Long Beach State. He worked hard all of his life and had a distinguished career in surety bonding that included, most recently, being the Senior VP of Surety Division at Venbrook Insurance Services since 2010, and prior to that Vice President of Surety at Willis when Willis bought out Larry's own company Cogdill Bonding.

Larry was an accomplished drummer and loved many genres of music. He and his rock band "The Agents" entertained us all so many times. He loved hosting his friends and family at Del Mar racetrack's Turf Club, and enjoyed being father to his two sons, Lance and Brett, as well as being the dog-dad of Thumper, Jack, Belle and Beau.

Larry was predeceased by his father Lt. Lloyd Dale Cogdill, USAF. He is survived by his mother Sherrie Cheney, stepfather Freeman Cheney, sister Sherisa Lynn Cogdill, sons Lance Douglas Cogdill and Brett Lawrence Cogdill, and his partner of 14 years Ramona Seidman.

True to his love of life, there will be no funeral services, but a "Celebration of Life" is now being planned.
