Dear Jerisse, I was all smiles when I saw your beautiful picture in the Advocate Sunday morning until I read the article. Our hearts and prayers are with you and Grant at this time. We are so sorry for your loss. Larry was a great part of our dancing years at Jeffie Jean. We will remember him fondly. When sad, just think of all the fabulous memories. Jerisse and Grant, it took us a while to decide what we wanted to say, I guess because this still doesn't seem real!

Thank you, Larry, for all of the support you gave to our dancers and Jerisse through the years at every revue; and thank you, too, for so generously sharing her time with us. I can still see you moving scenery, tables, trophies, costume racks, props, etc., into and out of the LSU Union Theater (and Episcopal High School Auditorium)! We will always remember those revues, our road trips to competitions, shared meals afterwards, and even the search for missing hats in Myrtle Beach!

You were the ultimate Dance Dad/Husband and we thank you! Your shoes as a teacher, coach, friend, mentor, and revue support staffer par excellence will be impossible to fill.

You also have been a wonderful husband and father. The Jeffie Jean Dance Family will do all we can to be there to help and support Jerisse and Grant now and far into the future!

God speed, Larry!

P.S. And thank you, thank you, thank you for having been Jessica's Dad the year her Daddy had to work and couldn't be in the revue!

Brian and Steve Bordelon

Jerisse,

I am not sure if you remember or not but I went to Episcopal for middle school and Larry was in high school. I remember him as "Superman" and I know he is moving on to a better place. He was also one of my counselors at Camp Atakapa and was a great role model for me and for many more. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Our loss is God's gain.

I was saddened to hear the news about Coach Grantham. He was one of my 4th hall buddies at Tara. I had the great pleasure of hearing all the stories of his classroom - from him and the students. I see now what a great testament to his life and career those stories are! Those that knew him as family, friend, student, or co-worker all have a "Coach Grantham story." How great is that?!?
You are in my thoughts and prayers today and in the moments to come.

April 24, 2015

Larry certainly impacted our family. He taught our son (who was not a basketball player) at Tara (class of '09) and we always enjoyed hearing about how things were going in "coach's class." He learned life lessons as much as academics with "coach." Larry's support of Jerisse and the studio also has had a great impact on our daughter's life. She never had the opportunity to be in Larry's class, but has loved her time dancing with Jerisse. Larry did so much to support Jerisse and her gift and passion for dance! The studio will not be the same without his "backstage" support for her, including his dancing in several reviews! Tap dance in Louisiana, as well as Baton Rouge basketball, has lost a terrific one! Prayers are with all of his family.

Coach Grantham taught me Civics my Junior year at Tara High School in 2005. It was the best class and he was absolutely my favorite teacher of all. The funniest memory I have with me that I will never forget is that when everybody shows up to class and not one single student missing class, Coach Grantham went in the hallway and yelled as loud as he could "I HAVE PERFECT ATTENDANCE" and hearing the whole school laugh was just great. This news hit me so hard I literally cried. Couldn't believe it. Coach Grantham will be missed! My deepest sympathy and condolences goes out to his family and friends. May God rest your soul in peace!

My sincere sympathy,
Larry and I coached together at Walker High many years ago.Even though he was the basketball coach, Larry did all he could to help the football program.Though we didn't win many games back then, Coach always approached each one like it was for a championship. I remember Coach Grantham from his early days of coaching at Walker High School. He was my geography teacher, and thirty-something years later, there are two things I remember about that class: one was about how rain/snow falls over mountainous areas and the other was dotting all the "i's" in "Mississippi." I played softball, and had a great season offensively and every time he saw me, Coach Grantham called me "the Babe" for Babe Ruth. We saw Coach a few times over the years in a gym here or there and it was always great to catch up. My husband, also a WHS grad, and I are both 20plus year educators now. Thank you, Coach for touching our lives!

To the Grantham, Bolton and Hix families it with a deep sad heart to hear this news. May God's grace give you the strength to continue the traits which Larry lived every day--family, passion, dedication, competitiveness, toughness, and caring for the fellow man.
Our past is deep from high school athletics, LSU days, and the basketball court--he the coach, me the official--we had our moments!
Only a few chosen ones embarked on the journey he selected, to touch and enhance the lives of many!

You have my deepest sympathy. He coached my son, Tyrian Davis his first year down here from Donaldsonville and we fell in love with him. He would go and sit in his class when they said he wasn't doing what he was suppose to... I really appreciate everything he has did for him and the times even after his retirement he was still coaching him when he came to the games... R.I.P. Coach We love you.
