Larry Lynn Long

Sarasota - Larry L Long, age 82, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 9th after a long, courageous and persevering 18-year battle of 3 different cancers and other health issues. In his final days he was surrounded by the care and love of his children. His wife Janet of 4 years was by his side when he took his final breath.

A native of Indiana, he excelled at basketball and football in high school, which he loved. After graduating, he enjoyed playing golf as often as he could.

Larry worked for United Parcel Service for 33 years. He started as a clerk and rose to President of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Larry was the definition of a self-made man. He was a respected leader at UPS and met many lifelong friends during his time there. In 1995, at age 52, he retired early to be by his wife, Sandy's, side as she battled terminal cancer.

After Sandy passed away in 1995, he relocated to Sarasota, where he met Sandra. They married in 1996 and enjoyed golfing and traveling the world together, with the pinnacle being a four-month cruise around the globe. Sadly, Sandra passed away in December 2018.

In December of 2020, Larry married Janet, though he was battling so many health issues, he greatly valued their time together until his passing.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Juanita, and sister Lonna. Larry left behind his brother Lyle and sisters Donna and Brenda, who always looked up to and were proud of their big brother. He also leaves behind his stepchildren Renee and Frank.

Larry was passionate about many things, but the most important were his 3 children Brett (Amanda), Christa (Chad) and Jenny (Dan). His 8 grandchildren Lillianna (Allan), Thomas, Trevor (Kirby), Taylor (Cassie), Madison, Raegan, Grant (Nikki), Lily, and great-grandchildren Claire, Quinlynn, and Connor.

Larry's memory and gift of giving will be embedded in hearts forever. He will be missed.
