Larry D. Schultz, 60, passed away peacefully in his home from a sudden illness on August 8, 2022.
In honor of Larry, a reception will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022; from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jubilee in Ord.
Larry was known and loved by all as “Big Lar” in Ord Nebraska, his home since 1984. Larry attended Phillips Elementary and graduated from Aurora High School in 1979.
From an early age, Larry was a consummate music buff, meticulously recording the “American Top 40” music list from the radio every week without exception. Not surprisingly he went on to major in Broadcast Journalism and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1983. Shortly thereafter he became known as “Big Lar on the Air” in Ord, Nebraska for KNLV radio station where he broadcast the latest hits with his good humor interspersed.
He later switched careers to devote his time to the Lower Loup Natural Resources District, where he served as Educational Coordinator for 23 years. Larry enormously enjoyed educating local youth on topics relating to natural resources as well as traveling with the team from the Lower Loup NRD to national meetings in Washington DC which was a highlight of his career.
Family and friends knew that Larry was not in the least a morning person and was happiest in his own separate time zone that typically kept him up past 3 AM. Nonetheless he was always a generous mentor, friend, uncle and brother who was loved by many and known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his brother, Greg (Kim) Schultz; and their children, Jack and Savanna of Phoenix Arizona, he loved the role of “Uncle Lar” for his niece and nephew and was exceptionally proud of them. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Susan) Schultz of Punta Gorda, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Perry Schultz; and his father, Bill Dean Schultz.

So sorry to hear about Larry's passing. I worked with him for many years in the NRD system, and I don't think I ever met a more gentle, caring, intelligent, and decent person. I think the only thing that was bigger than his stature was his heart. He'll be greatly missed.

I, Phyllis Piontkowski was also a LLNRD employee until I retired in 2007. I attended many employee meetings for the LLNRD and Larry was always there. He was a very respected person, courteous, and caring.

Larry you were one of a kind! You will be tremendously missed not only by your co-workers around the office but by the board members of the Lower Loup at our meetings. All the students you informed about natural resources are better off because of you!
