Larry Scott Obituary

Published by Modesto Bee on Jan. 15, 2012.
LARRY KEITH SCOTT
MAY 4, 1943 - NOVEMBER 5, 2011
Larry, age 68, died suddenly following a tragic automobile accident near San Luis Obispo.
He was born in Downey, CA but spent the majority of his life in Modesto.
Larry is known especially for his unwavering love and steadfast commitment to his family and friends, his handyman skills, extensive mechanical knowledge, welding, and his never-ending love of the great outdoors.
Larry served in the National Guard from 1961-1965.
You may have seen Larry over the years in and around the Modesto area where he frequently worked underground repairing water mains. He worked with Del Este Water Company for 27 years from 1968 until the City of Modesto took Del Este over in 1995. He then worked for the City of Modesto from 1995 until his retirement in 2004. Larry was a very hard worker and took his role as family provider very seriously. He was loved by his many co-workers who enjoyed his laughter and keen sense of humor. After retirement he continued to work with his son Zack who owns Scott Family Landscaping.
Larry had a passion for cycling and twice completed the STP (Seattle to Portland) 200 mile ride, first in 1994 and most recently in July 2011 following a knee replacement 6 months earlier.
His other hobbies included restoration from the ground up of his 1962 Chevy Pickup, and taking his jeep rock climbing. He was a member of the local 4x4 in Motion club. Larry loved traveling, hiking, backpacking, fishing, camping and being with his family and friends.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife Nancy, three sons: "CK" Charles (Christy) Scott, of Russellville, Ark., Jeff (Denise) Scott of Modesto, Zack (Carmen) Scott of Modesto, and his daughter Heather (Earin) Gutierrez of Modesto; his five grandchildren Josh, Dominick, Lily, Gabriel and Madison and his faithful companion and friend (his dog) Zipper.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at l:00pm at the Community of Christ Church at 2705 Tully Road, Modesto, CA.
