Larry Earl Shumway, beloved husband, father, and grandfather of Logan Utah, passed away on December 20, 2022 at the age of 79 leaving a hole in the hearts of everyone that knew him. Larry was born on January 10, 1943 to Norma and Norman Shumway in Price, Utah. He grew up in American Fork, Utah and was the oldest of five children. He always looked out for his younger brothers and sisters and was a great example to them. He loved to play, watch, and coach sports and was a very talented and skilled athlete. He lettered in baseball, football, and basketball for American Fork High School before he graduated in 1961. After graduation, Larry served a full-time LDS mission to London England. When he returned home, he married Terry Archibald and they had 3 children. Larry and his family moved to Sacramento California after attending Brigham Young University, but he returned to Utah after his first marriage ended. He met the love of his life, Jeraldine Jones at a singles dance and they were married in the Provo Temple in 1973. Family was extremely important to Larry and he treated Jeri's daughters like they were his own. He and Jeri had 4 more children and raised them in Logan Utah. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his children and grandchildren and he supported and loved each of them very much.

Larry was a hard worker and was an employee for Geneva Steel, Thiokol, and Autoliv. He had also learned the plumbing trade from his father and worked various side jobs in this field to support his family. He taught plumbing classes at Utah Valley State College and was even a plumbing associate at Home Depot after he retired, and he never hesitated to use his skills to help others in this area. He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and he had an unwavering testimony. His faith was the rock for his entire family and he made sure his children knew of his love for the gospel. It was well known that he was a True-Blue fan of BYU and he avidly followed the Dodgers from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. He had quite the sense of humor and he liked to pull off a good prank. He was a loyal friend and made everyone around him feel important and special. Larry had a generous spirit and was always thinking of those who were less fortunate. Random acts of kindness, like giving away his coat to a Door Dash employee who didn't have one, were a part of his daily life. His life and legacy will always be remembered by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Scott. He is survived by his wife Jeri of almost 50 years, his siblings Janice Davenport (Larry) American Fork UT, Lynette Barrington (Ken) American Fork UT, Mike (Janet) American Fork UT, and his children Jerianne Gerloff (John Santin) Elk Grove CA, Mark (Tristen) San Francisco CA, Geoff (Candace Hayashida) Sacramento CA, Lori Dunn (Jack) Cedar Hills UT, Debbie Long (Robert) Austin TX, Stephanie Jeppesen Logan UT, Casey (Kami) Logan UT, Chad (Dawn) Boise ID, Jennie McNeil (Jake) Millville UT, and Chris (Emily) Hyde Park UT as well as 37 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends and loved ones can pay their respects at the viewing on Wednesday December 28, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary in Logan and Thursday December 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at 350 W 700 S Logan Utah. I am very sorry for your loss. We were in the same ward for a while, and I went to school with Chad and Jennie. Your dad was a very kind man, and it is so difficult to lose a parent. I hope for you to have comfort and peace at this time. Please give my sincere condolences to everyone.

I was able to play basketball with Larry in High School. I enjoyed his unwavering friendship. I have great memories of how much fun he was to be around. He was always positive, but full of fun. Have great respect for him. Condolences to his wife and family.

The very first time I met Larry. I thought to myself "my mom is dating Gene Wilde". The original Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He looked just like him and was just as funny. He will be missed. Love you.
