In Loving Memory of Larry James Simpson

January 6, 1938 - January 6, 2025

Larry James Simpson, of Lewistown, Illinois, departed this life on his 87th birthday, January 6, 2025. Born and raised in Pekin, Illinois, he was the son of Dorothy Frye and Harlan Simpson. Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael (2006) and Phillip (2005).

He is survived by his devoted partner of 25 years, Jean Hastings, with whom he shared a loving home in Lewistown, Illinois. Larry leaves behind his four sons: Steven Simpson of Pekin, Gregory Simpson (Gail) of Metamora, Timothy Simpson (Lori) of Morton, and Scott Simpson of Chicago, along with their mother, MaryAnn Simpson. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In 1961, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California, where he welcomed the birth of his first son. After returning to Illinois in 1964, he began a long and dedicated career at Caterpillar, retiring in 1998 as a planning analyst at the Morton distribution center.

Larry cherished the companionship of his beloved pets, who brought him constant comfort, joy, and love.

Larry also found happiness in many simple pleasures. He loved watching crime dramas, with Blue Bloods being his favorite, and enjoyed feeding the birds in his yard. He spent time playing solitaire, traveling, and dining out, often savoring good food and a drink in the company of others.

A service to honor his life will be held at Henry Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Lewistown, on Friday afternoon, January 10, 2025. Prayers are welcome as we entrust Larry to God's care.
