To my friend, Larry. Rest in peace, Dude. Since the late 70's my most reliable friend. My most fun friend. I will surely miss reaching you by that crazy telephone no. The telephone co. better retire it and never issue it to anyone else again - it should always be yours, Larry. Take good care, bud - oh, and be on the lookout for me - while I am still down here, and when I get to go to that final Martini party up in the clouds where we will always remain, once we get in, of course, if I get an invitation - may I wear my hat please? Greet me at the door, if you don't mind - I will be looking for you.

Larry energized a room by just being in it. He was an unforgettable force of good will and humanity. I am so happy that he met, Cindy, "the love of his life" and was surrounded by "family" these past years. All who knew him will celebrate his life, and I for one, am grateful to have known him.

I remember Larry and Judy and their patents as a teenager on College Blvd. he was always a very hard working, industrious guy with lots of friends who folded newspapers for delivery at the Van Horn home. I'm so glad he was happily married (alto I heard he was very slow to find that RIGHT GIRL). I know he will be missed by many family and friends

Fran & Frank Graves

August 9, 2017

We are very sad to hear of Larry's passing. Fran knew him back in the late 1960s when she used to go to his Sunday afternoon Football get-togethers, long before she and Frank met. Frank knew Larry from commercial real estate, shared Spurs season tickets during that time and all three socialized many times.

Our wonderful memories will stay with us always.

They don't come any better than Larry Van Horn. A true 'best friend' since the 1960's. When I moved here then, he made my 'new city' in San Antonio feel like 'home' when we shared an apartment and house. Never missed a beat and always visited and kept in touch until I returned in the late 70's. The many great memories are treasured. He will be missed at our 'Birthday Lunches' at Raffles and all of our gatherings. I will truly miss my friend.

The grandkids got it right, "Boss" is a perfect name for Larry! Especially these past few years as he met his health challenges head-on, with the determination of a lion; and Cindy, as his lioness, which would forever protect and comfort him. We're sad that Larry's now gone; and yet, so is his pain. I'm confident he's in the right place. I can see him now... telling St. Peter an off-color joke at the Pearly Gates! You will be sorely missed, my friend.

Larry was always a true gentleman and he leaves a very treasured legacy for many of us who had the wonderful experience of living in San Antonio. He was one of the more charming movers & shakers along with JD (Shady) Strickell when I live there in the 70's. Larry and Shady are both in My Prayers.
