Larry Weaver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2016.
Larry Weaver, 66, of Pittsburg, Kansas, lost his life July 2, 2016 in Sikeston, Missouri when he was abducted while on a motorcycle trip. He was born to the late Lorence F. Weaver and Margaret A. (Tharrington) Weaver on October 22, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas.
He was married to Regina (Heffernan) Weaver, of Pittsburg, Kansas.
After high school, Larry served in the Navy for eight years, including three deployments to WESTPAC (off the coast of Vietnam) aboard the USS Coral Sea. He later worked for Grumman Aircraft, Hughes Aircraft, and Gamma F Corporation as a technician/assistant engineer in California before moving back to Kansas, where he completed a BS in Computer Science at Pittsburg State University (PSU), and accepted a position as a programmer/analyst at PSU after graduating.
Larry felt his greatest accomplishments while employed at PSU were his contributions towards moving things to a "Self Service" environment, such as On-line Enrollment/Advisement, Rosters, Grade Entry, Course Scheduling, Ordering Transcripts and other Student Information applications. Larry retired in 2015.
Larry was an avid woodworker and proficient sailor, eventually building and sailing his own wooden sailboat. As far back as he could remember, Larry loved riding on two wheels, from a bicycle as a child to his BMW and Harley Davidson as an adult.
Larry is survived by his wife, Regina, his daughter, Krishan Weaver-Tinney, two grandchildren-13-year old Samantha, and 9-year old Jack-and his siblings: Roberta O'Brien, Patricia Wills, Don Weaver, Cynthia Harvey, and Mark Weaver. He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 30th at DePaul Hall at Via Christi Hospital. If you plan to attend, please RSVP [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a scholarship fund at PSU set up in Larry's name. Checks can be made out to "Pittsburg State Foundation."

Dear Gina, I sadly seen this story of Larry. Strangely enough I had a good friend named Larry Weaver I had lost him to cancer. I also ride a Harley and travel alone. This story really hit home with me. I am so sorry for your great loss. Words can't explain the heartbreak I feel for you and your family. God bless and hope you are well.

I can't tell you how sad I was with hearing that Larry "Pappy" Weaver had died. My heart and deepest sympathy goes out to Regina and his family. I was in the Navy with Larry on two of his Westpac Vietnam cruises with VA-95 and made a couple of detachments with him to Alameda and Fallon. He was an avid biker and loved boats. He introduced me to a group of folks up in Washington that build a concrete sailing boat about 50feet long. Some of my fondest stories came about from my time with Larry. His whole VA-95 Green Lizard family wishes him fair winds and following seas. Farewell my friend.

Dearest Aunt Jeanie,

Words, however kind, can't mend your heartache, but those who care for you share your grief and wish you comfort and pace of mind. May beautiful memories bring you peace during this difficult time.

I'm here for you always.

I have been unable to respond to this, but I'm ready to try now. Larry was such a nice person, always had a smile, truly enjoyed life and was such a pleasure to be around.

Larry was the big kid who never grew up, yet was often the sensible adult. I envied Larry for having been able to retire with good health and be free to travel on his motorcycle like he did.

I am truly blessed to have known Larry and ridden with him has many times as I did.

RIP Larry.

Larry was a consummate "Golden Rule" guy, including the informal ending of "only do it first". He loved life, cherished everyone and everything around him, and let it be known. We were ALL privileged to know him and too soon separated from him. RIP, Larry. I look forward to seeing you on the other side and getting your perspective on things, here and there. I miss you ! Prayers to all who loved you and mourn your loss.

We are all richer for his interaction in our lives.

Thank you Larry for your prayers and kind words during my time of despair.
I will focus on the good times and memories....

Just can't believe I met you on Tuesday and lost you on Sunday. What a genuine, down to earth guy that just loved life, and I feel honored to have known him. We had a connection over a tshirt from Toad Suck Harley, and I know I will think of him fondly every time I see it and wear it.
My condolences to the family and friends of this wonderful man. He will be sorely missed in The Herd community.

I met Larry as part of our annual Herd motorcycle gathering in Arkansas in 2015. It was an honor to meet and ride with him. It was obvious right away he was a kind hearted gentle soul. I'm certain he touched many through out his life, me included, and will be missed by all. God bless and deepest sympathies to his family and all who miss him today and always.

I had the Honor of knowing Larry, but only for a short time. My wife and I met him in Arkansas at the Hub Hotel. And his room was next to ours this year in Townsend Tn. Larry spoke to us every evening and shared stories, and his love for the woodworking he had accomplished. He shared his love for riding, his family, and his wood working. Larry, I wish I had known you longer. I know that now you are resting in Paradise with the Lord our God. I thank you for your service to your country. I thank you for your friendship with my wife and I the short time we have known you. I will never forget you Larry. Thank you for being the man that you were. Stand down Sailor, your duty is done.
