Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2024.
Larry Lee Wildman, 84, passed away on August 4, 2024, in Conroe, Texas. Born on November 7, 1939, in Trilla, Illinois, he was a devoted husband, father, and brother, known for his humor, dedication, and loyalty.

Larry graduated from Mattoon High School in 1958. He was on the high school track club and was chosen to run in United States Olympic team trials, but due to extenuating circumstances he was unable to participate.

Larry proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War, primarily stationed in Germany where he worked as a Gunner in the artillery. His military service was marked by a commitment to excellence and duty.

Professionally, Larry was a skilled typesetter, having worked for the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the Houston Chronicle. He notably ran the Composing Room at the Houston Chronicle until his retirement, demonstrating his meticulousness, leadership and strong work ethic.

He was a man of faith, actively involved in Lakewood Church in the earlier years and The Woodlands Church as of late.

Larry enjoyed flying drones with his son Shaun, working on cars, riding his tractor, spending time working in his garden and shooting at the gun range. He was also passionate about technology and cherished moments with his family. The positive impact he had on his children was evident until the very last moment of his life.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Katherine Margaret Wildman; sons, Chad Everett Wildman (Allison) and Shaun Lee Wildman (Rebecca) ; daughter, Amanda Kay Wildman; only grandson, Joshua Lee Wildman; and brother, Danny Wildman (Kathy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Sherman Wildman, and siblings, Mary Wildman, Patty Wildman, Leverne Wildman, Jerry Wildman, and Peggy Wildman.

A family graveyard service will be held at Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt, Illinois handled by Schillings Funeral Home, located at 1301 Charleston Ave, Mattoon, IL 61938.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Diabetes.org in memory of Larry.

Larry's life was a testament to his strong character and the deep bonds he forged. His light and witty banter will be missed by those who knew him.
