Larry Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2016.
Larry Wood, 75 years of age, residing in Sun City, Arizona, passed away on August 31, 2016 in Surprise, Arizona. Larry was born May 6, 1941 in Indianola, Iowa to Alma and Carroll Wood. Larry was the youngest of eleven children.

Larry graduated from Indianola High School in 1959 and was active with Football, Basketball, and Track and Field. After graduation he enlisted in the Army Reserves.

Larry married Glennda Peterson Wood on October 14, 1963 in Princeton, Missouri. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where Larry went to work for Montgomery Elevator Company. As Superintendent of Construction he worked on several large projects in the Valley including Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor, the "BOB", and America West Arena. He was a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors and retired from Montgomery Kone in June 2000. He worked for the same company for 37 years.

Larry enjoyed coaching youth sports, camping in the desert and mountains with his friends and family, and NASCAR Racing. He loved The Dallas Cowboys - even when they had a bad year – and enjoyed many cruises and vacations, including "sunbirding" for 5 summers in Eastern Idaho.

Larry and Glennda moved to Georgetown, Texas in 2006 to be closer to Glennda's family. They were able to enjoy travelling all over Texas and the Southeast. In 2012 they moved back home to Arizona to be with friends and family.

Glennda, Randy, Rob and family, please accept our deepest sympathy at your loss. May the happy memories that Larry left you with sustain you as you go through the process of healing. We remember an evening that we spent with the Wood family at Rustler's Roost. After dinner, I shared some atomic fireballs and Larry was up to trying one. We died laughing after he popped one into his mouth. His eyes grew huge and his cheeks turned red. He couldn't spit that ball out fast enough. Thanks Larry for that memory. Rest in peace.
