Laura Bur Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 25, 2025.
Laura Jean (Axten) Bur was called home on February 15, 2025 with her beloved husband Mike by her side. What a long, brave battle she fought.

Laura was born and raised in Amesbury MA to the late Teresa (Bertolini) Axten and William H. Axten on July 14, 1958. We enjoyed a childhood of playing outside, skating, skiing, dance lessons, bike riding and just enjoying life. Laura would graduate from Amesbury High School where she was on the cheerleading squad in 1976 and later take classes at Northern Michigan University.

Laura lived in Michigan for many years where she met her soulmate, Michael T. Bur. They would later move to Arizona to be closer to her daughter Isabel and Grandchildren. Laura loved the hot weather and had no desire to ever move back to the cold snow that she loved as a child. This could be due to the fact that we had to shovel the driveway when the storms came and even still hung the clothes out on the line or took them in.

Laura was a practicing and devote Buddhist. She obtained her Real Estate License in Arizona and thoroughly enjoyed that part of her life meeting many new and dear friends.

Laura's Grandchildren were her life and she loved nothing more than to be with them whether in the pool or taking them to many places they loved to go. One recent trip in 2024 was to New Hampshire where she and her Granddaughter traveled to the top of Mount Washington and lounged in a Madison NH Lake at her brother's house. It was One of many trips she would have loved to take again.

Laura is survived by her loving husband, Mike Bur of Mesa, AZ, her Grandson, Cory and Granddaughter Alison of Phoenix, Arizona. She was pre-deceased by her hugely loved daughter, Isabel (Axten) Wohl. Laura is also survived by our three sisters and their spouses, Karen and Denis Iworsky, Kathy and Daniel Bean, Maureen and Robert Emmott and her two brothers and spouses, John and Barbara Axten and Michael and Bonnie Axten. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Although there were many miles between all of us, facebook, email and group texts kept us all as one.

Donations in memory would be welcomed at Hospice of the Valley, Attn: Fund Development, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 (https://www.hov.org/donate).

A private family memorial will be held at a later date
