Laura T. Greve, age 93 of Traverse City, MI and formerly of Manistee, MI died early Wednesday morning, April 19 2023 at French Manor Assisted Living in Traverse City, Michigan.
Laura was born in Chicago IL November 19, 1929, to Jeremiah and Leonie Palmer. She grew up in San Antonio, TX and the family spent their summers at their cottage on the beautiful shores of Onekama, MI. She always considered the cottage to be her home, and this is where she developed a love of the water and she especially loved to sail on Portage Lake. She met the love of her life, Edward Greve, in Manistee and they shared this joy together, often sailing or boating or just going to the beach together.
Laura graduated from Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio TX and from Rosary College in Chicago, IL with a degree in English. She loved children and began her career teaching 6th grade at Guardian Angels School in Manistee. This was where she met her husband, Edward. Laura and Edward were married at Guardian Angels Church on June 11, 1956. They had 6 children together.
Laura went on to a career in real estate in Manistee where she especially enjoyed helping people find their perfect home. She moved to Traverse City in 1996 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. In Traverse City, she was a volunteer with the Foster Grandparents for many years. This was where she found her way back to teaching, as a volunteer in various elementary schools where she especially enjoyed helping children learn to read. She continued her volunteer work until the age of 87.
Laura had a love of animals and had many pets throughout her life. She especially loved her cats and provided a home for many.
During her time in Manistee, Laura belonged to Guardian Angels Parish and was a member of St Francis Parish once she moved to Traverse City.
Laura is survived by, three sons and three daughter’s in-laws; James and Virginia Greve of South Bend, IL, John and Wendy Greve of Lakewood, IL, Patrick and Lisa Greve of Dexter, MI, four daughters and two son’s in-laws; Ann Greve of Elk Rapids, MI, Mary and John Rogers of Traverse City, MI, Joan and Chris Kmotorka of Tucson, AZ, Suzannah Greve of Traverse City, MI. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her, as well as a dear cousin, Peggy of Florida and Gaylord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward Greve and her granddaughter, Andrea Caruso.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church Manistee, Michigan with Reverend Basil Lek celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.
Relatives and friends will pray the Rosary at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2023 at the Herbert Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening and also on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until leaving for the church at 10:40 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Guardian Angels Historic Preservation Project or the Manistee County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of French Manor Green House and Hospice of Michigan who provided expert and compassionate care to Laura during her final weeks.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.

I remember Miss Palmer well and even the beautiful wedding gown that hung in her bedroom before her wedding day. RIP.
