Laura Mang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 15 to Sep. 16, 2011.
MANG Mrs. Laura Mang (Hilgarth) of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Gilbert Mang, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011, at the age of 95 years. Laura leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dennis (Annette) Hilgarth of Medicine Hat, Alberta; six grandchildren, Sher-Lynn (Bruce) Johnson, Kendra (Scott) Bulloch all of Medicine Hat, Carla (Larry) Zosel of Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Kelly (Terry) Jackson of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Roxanne (Trevor) Worley of Melfort, Saskatchewan and Robyn Schindel of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; eighteen great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Rosie Ross, Dennis' father, Emil Hilgarth, her second husband, Gilbert Mang; her daughter Deanna Schindel; one great great granddaughter, Reice Toutant and her sister, Helen Waterhouse. Laura was born in the country surrounded by three small villages Balgonie, Edenwald and Franks Lake, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1916. She was orphaned at a very young age and was subsequently raised by her grandparents on her mother's side. Here as a young person growing up she was taught the importance of hard work. As a very young woman she struck out on her own determined that there must be more to life than just hard work. But, work hard she did until she was more than 65 years of age. Gilbert and Laura loved to camp, fish and bowl. They did this for many years until it became too much for them and Gilbert passed away. Laura was a lady of many talents. She loved music and took lessons so she could play the organ and she played it well. She loved to cook, bake, sew, cross-stitch, crochet and paper tole. Many of us reaped the benefits of those talents, be it a crocheted blanket a cross-stitched or paper tole picture hanging in our homes. She loved to create lovely things but she also loved to give away these little pieces of herself. She may no longer be with us, but we will always have these and the special moments and times we shared with her. She will always have a special place in our hearts. Special thanks to Dr. Jeraj and the staff at Good Sam's for their outstanding care. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. George Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Good Samaritans c/o 550 Spruce Way SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1B 4P1.
