"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV).
These verses from the New Testament were Lauren's cherished favorite Scripture. Lauren radiated the joy of her faith to all that she encountered. She had an outgoing personality, great sense of humor, caring nature and never met a stranger.
Born in Raleigh September 24, 1983, Lauren grew up surrounded by a nurturing family and friends and touched many lives with her sweet spirit. She enjoyed her summers at Emerald Isle; Christmas vacations on her great-grandparents' South Georgia farm; competitive swimming; listening to all types of music; and spending time with her black Labrador Webster.
She was educated in the Wake County Public Schools, graduating from Needham Broughton High School in 2002. Lauren attended Appalachian State University and East Carolina University, working between her time in the classroom as a lifeguard and at the family's construction business. She was a dedicated Wolfpack sports fan and especially enjoyed football and basketball games. She was nurtured by close relationships with family and friends and took great pleasure in spending time with her beloved Mema.
Although she fought to overcome many obstacles in her life, she never lost her faith, and strived to help others who shared in her battle against addiction.
She is survived by her parents, Dickie and Angie Thompson, and much believed brother, Travis; paternal grandmother, Grace Thompson; maternal grandparents, Col (Ret.) and Mrs Emory Brownlee (Cumming, GA); uncles and aunts John and Vicki Thompson, Marty and Cindy Thompson, Suzanne and Art Southard (Bahama, NC), Marcia and Mike Cantor (Huntsville, AL), Buddy and Gay Brownlee (Marietta, GA); and her cousins Caroline Thompson, Mark Thompson, Paul Thompson, Anna Carmel, Hal Thompson, Madeline Thompson, Sydney Thompson, Craig Cantor, Matthew Cantor, Daniel Cantor, Will Brownlee and Bonnie Brownlee.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 PM Tuesday at Raleigh's Hayes-Barton United Methodist Church (Fairview Road). Visitation will be held at 1pm in the fellowship hall of Hayes-Barton United Methodist Church before the service. Friends are welcome at the family home Monday evening November 19.

Lauren was the first and best friend I made in this state. We signed up for CR together and she was always the person i looked forward to seeing every Tuesday and Friday. I have found peace with Lauren's passing by meditating on Hebrews 13:2. I believe Lauren was an angel among us and though she struggled, she brought many other people to recovery and many more who will stay the path of recovery in her memory. Now her struggle is over and our Father has called her home to rest and be with him in paradise.

I want to extent my deepest sympathies. I had only known Lauren for a few months, but we were becoming very good friends. We text-ed numerous times a week, and she was actually just at my house a week before she passed. We were talking about the her future and the hope she had, and how she wanted to take me to the beach house. I just knew we were going to be great friends! I found out about her passing last night, and was just devastated. She was an amazing beautiful young woman that just lit up a room. From the first second I saw her I felt a connection with her. I will miss her so very much and words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. Please know you're in my prayers.

There are no words to express the grief our family is experiencing for the loss of my son's friend Lauren. We only knew her briefly, but she left a place in our hearts and minds that will never fade away.
